Fears & the NBA Draft Projections

Maybe fears will be the first player to test the NCAA and transfer mid season to another school

Jeremiah had six turnovers last game. Surely NBA scouts noticed that. Remember, he should be a high school Senior this season.

Selfishly want him here another year or two but if he's remotely close to lotto I don't blame him for going to the draft. Does he enjoy Norman/OU? Pretty sure that kept Blake around for year 2 (even though he was an Okie).

There is a 0% chance Fears will be here next year. He'll either be in the NBA or starting for a blue blood.

At this point, I would say he is almost a first round lock. He has tremendous talent for such a young age and will be going to the draft. You can’t turn down a top 20 grade

Fears became one of the draft's buzziest prospects after a strong December, breaking through with 30 points against a quality Michigan team and nailing a clutch 3-pointer for a win on Dec. 18.

Though his effectiveness has dovetailed some with Oklahoma losing its first four conference games, Fears has impressed as one of college basketball's youngest players helping his team outpace expectations. Fears' youth, lack of physical strength and comparative inexperience probably sets him up for some volatility in the season's second half.

Although he has chipped in 1.9 steals per game, he's not a consistent defender. He is turning the ball over 3.8 times per game -- somewhat understandable considering the size of his role at his age -- but his ability to create shots off the dribble, make plays for teammates and flashes of shotmaking have been tantalizing.

Fears should continue to draw long looks from NBA teams seeking to add creation to their backcourt mix, and with the keys to Oklahoma's offense, he has a big opportunity to impress. -- Woo

Best case scenario here is he goes to the draft. Worst case is he’s all American next year for another SEC team.

There is no chance he’s a sooner next year.

Ok?

Fans guessing on the mindset of what a player chooses to do with his life a year apart is not related??

Scouting report: The SEC has been unforgiving at times for the 6-4, 182-pound 18-year-old who plays an outsized role for Oklahoma, leading all projected first-rounders with his 32% usage rate. Still, what makes Fears special is the way he handles the ball, gets to spots on the floor out of pick-and-rolls, passes, draws fouls and scores in a variety of ways, helping keep the Sooners in the NCAA tournament conversation. Showing growth with his defense, decision-making and shooting would help cement his candidacy as a top-10 pick. Fears' talent has been vividly displayed even when he has struggled from an efficiency perspective. -- Givony

NBA fit and intel: Shot creation was a major need for the Spurs prior to acquiring De'Aaron Fox, and Fears should be intriguing as a potential sparkplug scorer who wouldn't have to be forced into major minutes. His flashes of talent will have to outweigh his shortcomings from a physical and defensive perspective, but he'd have the opportunity to learn behind Fox and eventually pair with the bigger and more defensive-minded Stephon Castle. -- Woo
