Flopper to the Celtics with the 6th Pick

So if he never develops into an NBA All-Star, it was a bad pick?

I don't agree with that at all.

I think teams generally want their lottery picks to develop into starters and make an occasional all star appearance. I see Smart as a back up in the NBA. You can get backups on the free agency market all day long. Obviously I could be totally wrong. The guys making the decisions for the Celtics certainly know a lot more than I do. I just think they blew it with this pick.

I'm sure. Are you sure, or were you just running your mouth?

Ya I've never been as sure about something since I told everyone here that Keiton page would be a multi year starter and got laughed at or when I called that an ou football player was a moron and would do something wrong to get booted

Also-- hilarious that you think potentially picking a backup PG at 6 wouldn't be a bad pick... Haha. I'll take the Reggie Jackson's outside the lottery please and thank you

Clearly you are highly intelligent. Please regale us with more tales of your sports knowledge.

Clearly, nobody in the NBA thinks he is potentially a backup long term. If he ends up a career backup, I will agree that it was a bad pick. How bout we wait a few years before we write the kid off though. And I noticed you've backed off your "out of the league in 3 years" crap. I'll still take that bet. Easy. Money.

Clearly Rondo is on the trading block, maybe not right away because they want smart to take a year under rondo. I don't like smart as a pro, I think he'll be an average starter. The #6 pick really only had smart and PF options. I would have liked them to move the pick either up or down, but in am biased against smart so I could easily be wrong.

Agreed about the only other real options there being PF's, and Boston is sitting fine (better than that, actually) at that position.

The rumors suggested that Boston tried to move up, down, make trades for players, and all kinds of stuff. Nothing worked out. You can't trade just to trade, you have to find a trade partner that is willing to give you a fair deal. Unfortunately, everything fell through. Maybe Smart and Young get traded away this offseason. Maybe Rondo does. Either way, unless they somehow trade for Love (very doubtful), Boston is still in a massive rebuild, and they have tons of draft picks in upcoming drafts.

lol @ Smart being a backup & all this babbling nonsense. He is a versatile stud who will come in right away as lockdown defender & penetrator on offense.

Guarding Wiggins

Danny Ainge knows a little more about talent evaluation than the Johnny come lately okc homers. Great pick.

I have serious questions about Ainge's ability as GM to rebuild that franchise. Larry Bird is my all-time favorite player and I cheered for the C 's until the Thunder came along. I think the league really wants Boston, the Lakers, and the Knicks to get back into contention but none of the 3 look anywhere close before or after this draft.

Marcus Smart was picked right about where I thought he would go. As a Lakers fan, I'm glad we got Randle instead (at least for now). I'm not saying that because Smart went to OSU, I'm saying it because I really didn't see that much improvement from him as a sophomore. He still flops and still can't shoot. With that said, I do see him as a top-notch defender, a fierce competitor and an overall solid NBA player. I don't think he'll be a bust.

As for WTSooner, he and all the other OU fans who are Celtics fans seem to (and should) give him the benefit of the doubt. They now have to root for him to succeed...I know I would be if he went to the Lakers.

It's not easy for Boston. Boston (as a city) just isn't as attractive as NY or LA. They've never really been able to bring in the top notch stud FA's. As such, they have to rely on the draft, and they've drawn the short stick in that regards over the last few decades. Len Bias dies before ever playing a game for Boston. Reggie Lewis dies. I believe they had the best chance to land the #1 pick the year Duncan went #1, but the lottery didn't work out. I think we also had a good chance the year KD went #2, to land the #1 pick, and they ended up 5th I think.

There are times I think the NBA is fixed, or that I think they want Boston, LA, and NY to be good. But then I look at a draft like this, and see that Boston and LA are drafting 6th and 7th, and I think it's nonsense when I hear people say they are fixing drafts.

Ainge has a plan, or multiple plans, but he can't make it work by himself. Looks like they missed on Love. We'll see what they try to do in 2015. They have a ton of salary coming off the books then, and a ton of draft picks to move for the right player. Maybe Love will be a FA at that point.

I cant imagine having to root for smart. yuck

Yeah I know Ainge tried to move, but apparently nothing was too attractive can't blame him for that. Love wants out bad but them having Rubio and the Celtics 2 biggest assets being pg's I don't see it hàppening. I've been against blowing the team up (and still am since there are some bad expiring contracts) but maybe it's time.

it's not being a poke that gets me. It's marcus.

I didn't have issues rooting for desmond mason. I just don't like marcus

But if didn't play for osu and say he played at say Kentucky, UCLA, Florida, or Duke, he would never cross my mind.

Hard to say for sure, but I could name quite a few guys who came into the league not being able to shoot and in a couple of years became a serviceable or even an above average shooter. It's been done. Blake griffin for example. Just saying.

Smart is a 6'2" run of the mill good athlete with average handles, has questionable character and is a below average shooter. BG was/is a once in a generation athlete who also happens to be a high character guy with great measurables for his position, has extraordinary ball skills, and great scoring ability around the basket.

I doubt that is how a "neutral" observer would have categorized either of them after a year or two in college.

Really? BG game changed light years from his freshman to sophomore year. He was borderline unstoppable, always considered a freak athlete, a rebounding machine and the consensus national poy. As for Smart, not so much.

BG doesn't have great measurables, average at best if you're talking about height and length.

That's probably fair, but his size doesn't cause him issues for the position his skills dictate he plays.
