Flopper to the Celtics with the 6th Pick

That's probably fair, but his size doesn't cause him issues for the position his skills dictate he plays.

Agreed he's definitely not undersized and his combination of skills for his size is extremely rare.

I was comparing nothing more than shooting abilities. That still isn't fair since blake needed to develop his midrange, Smart needs both that and 3pt shooting.

Jason Kidd couldnt shoot worth a flip when he came into the league.

Blake didn't have to have a midrange game to be an allstar, he needed a midrange game to be a top 5 player in the league.

Smart needs all of that, needs to keep his man in front of him, and become a better person. He's not shown the ability to do much of that very well.

Seriously? Please stop with the comparisons to Blake. Consensus POY and clear #1 draft pick in most any season to a guy who MIGHT not have even been the best player on his team. Kidd is a ridiculous comparison, too...

I never thought of Blake Griffin as having a bad shot for a power forward or center. He just didn't shoot that many outside shots because he could get to the rim at will.

Getting that bad feeling about this thread in 2 years...

I guess it's possible, but there have been guys with similar measurables and hype in the past...I'm not sure how you find something like that out, but I'm betting the odds aren't great.

It's like the people who used to rag on Shaq..."all he does is dunk". First, he did way more than that AND what's wrong with dunking? If you can't stop me playing my way, what is wrong with that. BG did/does a lot more than dunk, but those are the highlights you see.

I think this is probably the best Smart comparison there is, though I don't think Smart will hit Kidd's success. But similar games.

I think Smart is the real deal and I have defended him multiple times in the past on this board. It's just hard to find people with his kind of motor in the NBA. He has that Kobe Bryant/Russell Westbrook competitiveness in him.

Call me crazy but he has a real shot to win Rookie of the Year. People also forget for the past two years he wasn't coached at all. Coaching matters and its a good thing for him that he gets Brad Stevens now.

just curious, but how much will he have to make to pay the flopping fines imposed in the NBA that were never called in the college game?

Not seeing that at all, Kidd was a transcendent player as a passing PG and was a guaranteed star since he was in 8th grade and SI covered him.

Smart has all the skills to succeed, honestly someone probably just needs to kick him in the ass and get him to be more disciplined in his game and work ethic and chances are he'll be a very good player for a while.

I have always said that if the stars all align correctly Smart could be Jason Kidd, but I give that virtually no chance of happening. If I were into stupid internet bets; I would bet that his career will closely resemble that of Lindsey Hunter, yes I know they have different games, I'm talking about career productivity.

How will he do that if Rondo starts?

No chance they start the season with all three right? They have to be moving someone... likely Rondo IMO

I wouldn't say no chance. What is wrong with playing Smart off the bench as a backup to both? Boston isn't very deep at the 1-2 spots.

That said, I think in an ideal world they'd move Rondo before the start of the season, but Ainge isn't going to give him away.

And that QO to Bradley won't be anywhere near enough to keep him. Be interesting to see how high Boston is willing to go. Most C's fans are willing to go $5-6M/season. There are thoughts that somebody might offer as much as $8-9M. He isn't worth that.
