Frank Booker Transferring

He might be better than Booker (I hope he is) but it is silly to suggest Booker is not OU level talent. I am not sure you are actually suggesting that.

Every guy I listed had a scholarship to play at OU so they are all OU level talent and in my opinion Booker made a larger contribution than all of them.

Really productive bench players have been rare at OU. McKenzie was pretty productive. Selvy was fairly productive. Fitzgerald was fairly productive but not really any more than Frank Booker when he came off the bench as a Freshman and Senior. Detrik was productive. Even on the 88 team nobody scored much from the bench. Mullins and Martin were both below 5 points a game.

Kelvin Sampson won A LOT of games at OU with one dimensional players.

Frank's D this year was much improved. Who cares if he couldn't score it any other way than shooting? That statement is nearly true for Hield most of the time too.

Hield isn't nearly as one dimentional. He is a threat to get in the lane everytime he touches it.

Booker's game is fine if he was a true knock down shooter. But he takes 5 shots to score 5 points

Who hurt us the most by transferring: Hornbeak or Booker? Did either have an "attitude" that affected the team?

Hornbeak - he had a nice stroke and would have been a great 6th man for our team. I think he had a better stroke then Frank and he made a lot of clutch FTs down the stretches of games for us before he left.

With that said Hornbeak seemed to have way more of an attitude problem before he left then Booker who seemed to genuinely like his teammates.

Hornbeak is by far the better player, he also is the one reported to have an attitude problem about not starting.

I wouldn't confuse what Buddy did in the last couple games vs what he brought the rest of the entire year. Surprised a lot of people with his couple forays to the rim.

Beat me to it.

I'm not saying he does it a lot but he is a threat to do it. i have always been critical of buddy's game...standing outside too much and jacking up shots

Hornbeak was the better player and the bigger loss.

I'm curious as to why some seem to think Booker is more than a bench player on a bad bench.

Literally the only thing he brought was perimeter offense...which wasn't great.
He didn't have good handles, he couldn't drive to the basket, he didn't have a midrange game, and he was an average defender.

My statement was less about Frank, and more about the potential transfer in question. I'm not really disagreeing with you on any point you've made about Frank. He and his production are clearly replaceable.

The point is Collin Jennings is not a candidate to do so. He was a role player for a WAC team with a losing record. The only reason he got to 11 vs. Iowa State was because his team was getting absolutely creamed and he canned a few meaningless 3s. His only other double digit scoring game of the season was vs. Seattle U. I have no idea why the statement that Collin Jennings is not an OU scholarship level talent induces so much fury.

Tim Heskett

Tim joined the team in 1997, almost 20 years ago. He was a good player but I think that makes my point. There are very few bench players that did more than Booker. Additionally, in his freshman and senior years time averaged 3.9 and 3.7 points per game. He did have two nice years in between (and a redshirt year).

What I am trying to demonstrate is very few bench players have averaged 5 points per game and most of those that did it, only did by a small amount.

I think many people are confusing the words "need" and "want". OU needs bench players that don't make glaring mistakes and cost the team games. OU wants bench players like Detrik that produce close to 10 points a game.

Jason Detrick is a name out of the past. I looked it up and he's still playing internationally: currently in Austria. He was a juco transfer and did come off the bench his junior year and averaged 9.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game on almost 21 minutes/game. He redshirted a year and then started as a senior. He was a big, strong guard that could really slash to the basket.

Kelvin loved those strong juco guards that could bully people going to the hoop. Others I remember were Nolan Johnson, Corey Brewer, and Ebi Ere.

Booker could help us greatly in the future. You are selling him short. He was coming around on defense.

Denver thanks for mentioning a bunch of other guys who weren't talented enough to play for OU. Yes they and Frank could play and we needed Frank desperately this year but to be the type of team OU expects to be we can do better.

Knockdown shooter? 33% overall and 30% from 3. Not exactly the next Kyle Korver. Frank's biggest problem is he thought he was a shooter. Did anybody else notice the 30 footers he threw up against MSU? Nice shot selection.

I promise nobody in the Lloyd Noble offices is losing sleep over this!

Good Luck to Frank!

That is a picture of a high school student. You need to grow up and learn not to insult the appearance of children. Unlike you, that young man plays college sports and is a heck of an athlete regardless if he is or is not an OU level athlete.

I am truly disappointed in you. Maybe next week we can find some junior high school kids to mock.

You were not joking you were insulting a child.

There is nothing funny about posting a child's picture on the internet and "joking" about it.
