Frank Booker Transferring

This is a silly statement. Frank Booker did more than Bennett, Walker, Ray Willis, Neysmith, Cole, Blair, Washington, Abdul, Hardrick, Tompson, Allen, Kyle, Leary, Maze, Chris Walker, etc.

Agreed.

I'd say Booker may not have ever developed into an OU starter caliber of player, but he was more than adequate off the bench.

Just because he's better than those guys doesn't mean he's at the level we need out of the backup wing. Those guys weren't at the level that we needed. That's the point vbdad was making (correct me if I'm wrong).

Not trying to disparage Booker at all, he seemed to have a lot of energy on the bench/supporting the guys and gave his best. I'll root for him to do well wherever he ends up.

He might be better than Booker (I hope he is) but it is silly to suggest Booker is not OU level talent. I am not sure you are actually suggesting that.

Every guy I listed had a scholarship to play at OU so they are all OU level talent and in my opinion Booker made a larger contribution than all of them.

Really productive bench players have been rare at OU. McKenzie was pretty productive. Selvy was fairly productive. Fitzgerald was fairly productive but not really any more than Frank Booker when he came off the bench as a Freshman and Senior. Detrik was productive. Even on the 88 team nobody scored much from the bench. Mullins and Martin were both below 5 points a game.

...and most of those players weren't OU talent either.

Except Maze, he had a nice little career at Tennessee.

Nick Thompson was not OU level talent, I don't care that he had a scholarship

Sad he doesn't want to be here, but I wish Frank Booker all of the best. His legacy at OU shouldn't be that he is a replaceable scorer. His legacy should be tied to one particular game and more specifically, one play. No one should have already forgotten that we were down 9 to Dayton with things looking a bit bleak. Booker ended their Iowa State-like run with a fade-away 3-point shot. THAT, without any doubt, was the turning point of that game and why we got to survive that first weekend. In my eyes, THAT will be his legacy at OU.

Name bench players that produced more than 5 points a game at OU in the last 30 years. Booker averaged 5.05 ppg over two seasons coming off the bench. This year he suffered a back injury that limited his production early in the season. To suggest he was not a solid bench player in the Big XII is not fair in my opinion.

Agreed.

Exactly and we will never know what would happen if he got 30 minutes a game. He might turn into a really good 3 point specialist as a starter scoring about 9 points a game with 2 three pointers made a game and 3 other points. That is a respectable player.

Booker was an adequate bench player for us, but I don't think he was as good as Alex Spalding. Too bad Spalding left the program when he did because he was just turning the corner. He was big in that 99 tournament run.

He had a lot of holes in his game. I didn't think his defense was good and he made way too many turnovers when he was handling the ball. Bad passes.

Not ou level talent.

yep not even close

Agreed. Walk on, sure. Otherwise, this is not a replacement for Frank Booker.

I'm curious as to why some seem to think Booker is more than a bench player on a bad bench.

Literally the only thing he brought was perimeter offense...which wasn't great.
He didn't have good handles, he couldn't drive to the basket, he didn't have a midrange game, and he was an average defender.

Bennett is more of an ou caliber player than frank, as was blair and leary and maze.

Booker was so one dimensional he made michael neal look like westbrook.

I would take another maze and leary over booker in a heart beat. They weren't one dimensional. It's a wash with Blair jr. He was actually very solid for us.

You guys are unfair to Frank Booker. He was a solid contributor for two years and will be missed. It is certainly possible the new guys will be better but you can never have too many three point shooters.

That's ridiculous...
Booker was a solid bench player who averaged 6 points a game as a freshman and sophomore, battling through injuries his sophomore season. It's not earth-shattering that he's leaving, but I feel like he could have developed a better feel for the game and shot more like 40% from 3 than 30%. He was limited, but fairly athletic and decent enough defensively to give you 10 minutes or so off the bench every game and knock down some outside shots while the starters rest.

I did like Maze. Hated to see that kid go. Good luck to Frank but we'll be just fine without him.

Kelvin Sampson won A LOT of games at OU with one dimensional players.

Frank's D this year was much improved. Who cares if he couldn't score it any other way than shooting? That statement is nearly true for Hield most of the time too.

we need someone that is good enough to give more than 10 mintues off the bench. we need a legit sixth man

Who hurt us the most by transferring: Hornbeak or Booker? Did either have an "attitude" that affected the team?

I was just thinking Booker could have been a Tim Heskett type if he were allowed to just hang out in the corner and wait for the ball.
