First off he's my favorite coach to watch. Period. It's so entertaining to see his expressions, and his intensity.

One quote from him I found very interesting which kind of hit home after watching our guys this season...to paraphrase..

"I only recruit kids that are going to play the full court. I tell them up front if their main concern is scoring then go somewhere else. You are going to play defense at 110% for 100% of the time you are on the court or you are not going to play for me. Scoring is easy. Defending wins games".

A freaking men to that coach Martin. :clap

If Capel was like Martin all of OU's players with the exception of Cade would have gone into fetal positions in the corner!!!GoSooners!!!!!!

The only coach in my life time that observed that policy at OU is completely vilified yet everyone is clapping...

Got to admit, Frank Martin was NOT one of my favorite coaches when he took over for Huggins, but he has really grown on me over time. Watching his players having to hold him back is greatness! He has it really rolling up there and has his coaching priorities in order. :clap

I agree, the only reason Martin got the job was to save Beasley and he had a pretty bad rep coming in. But the dude has done right by KSU and proven that he can do it on his own. His story about coaching HS and teaching math is pretty good too. Still, I'm afraid it's a matter of time before he pulls a Woody Hayes on Charlie Baumann...

Kelvin S.teams played good defense yet at times they could'nt hit the ocean standing on the shore. So the difference is Frank Martins teams are all athletic players.play good defense.& they do not struggle to score points. The therory is you just can't get a bunch of non athletic, grab your lunch pale type players, who get hot & cold scoring & expect to make it to the sweet 16 or elite 8 every year....GoSooners!

I like the way KSU plays but Frank Martin is a powder keg ready to explode in a nanosecond.

It is impossible to play at 110% 100% of the time, unless you had someone elses body parts grafted onto you.

But you could play at 100% 110% of the time if you played well before the clock starts on an inbound play for instance.

Only Kansas fans should expect make it the Sweet 16 or elite 8 every year.

You can bet Frank Martin's teams won't make it every year either.

Pretty sure he meant if you are on the floor for 10 minutes you better give 110% effort for the entire 10 minutes. Not for 9 minutes..not for 8 minutes...100% of the 10 minutes.

He also talked about players like MJ and Kobe, and how they were the best defenders on the floor. Said it's no coincidence that they are considered among the all-time greats because they play D and not just scored. Defense was half of what makes them so great.

i admit i was 100% wrong about Martin. I thought he was a token chump hire. but, i like the way his guys play.

I really like Martin a lot. A real lot. But I agree with what you are saying. For some reason I think he'll blow up big time eventually somehow. I hope not because he's good for the league. He's not afraid of anybody.

I'll also admit I was wrong about Frank. Thought he was a bit too crazy, which he is, but he can coach. Hopefully he doesn't kill someone in the process, which if it happened would probably be Curtis Kelly.
