He wouldn't come to OU.

He was raised in Nebraska and Tom Osborne recruited him to play football. Hoiberg to Nebraska is not a reach by any means.

Awful for us. With as many Final Fours and titles as Fred has on his resume, I'm sure he will win several national titles there.

They signed him. Waiting to announce.

What a time to be a Nebraska fan.

If and when it is time for a new coach we need to find the basketball equivalent of Lincoln Riley, an individual who has personal magnetism who can attract solid athletes w/o having to cheat or bend the rules.

He has no discipline. Had players routinely miss practice & he’d only not start them. Chicago Bulls constantly reported they had no respect for him. Had good, talented teams & has a good offense but no thank you.

Hmm...so Fred Hoiberg?

Who could we hire to get players like Buddy Hield and Trae Young to select OU over big name programs? :)

All kidding aside, I think the personal magnetism stuff can be overblown. There are tons of college basketball coaches who are great self promoters and great in front of a camera. A lot of those guys have shown theme to be pretty crappy coaches. Riley's personalities may help a bit, but the fact he is an offensive mastermind helps a lot more.

Jeff Cap..... nevermind

That's nice and all but I was not suggesting Riley's personality traits are his only coaching qualities for it is most obvious that he knows how to game plan and utilize offensive talent.

With respect to charisma, either Kruger has the equal, less or more of it than Lincoln. I believe Riley would resonate (I hate that word) with the college aged athlete better.

You believe Riley is more, less or equl to Hoiberg's character. I did say "basketball equivalent of LR." I'll leave it at that.

Off the top of my head, no, I cannot think of a college basketball equivalent more similar to LR than Hoiberg.

nebraska has a long way to go to be the best bball program in its own state

Best case scenario hire for them though. It all starts with the coach. Basketball, on the surface, seems the easiest to turn around. 100's of good players per year, you need 2-3 of them per year.

I would like to take this opportunity to quote myself, from a thread back in 2015:

If he stays in Ames:
He will be a mega millionaire
He will have job security for as long as he wants
He will continue to win at the college level
The fans and town will adore him
He will only have to coach 35 games a year
They will erect statues of him and probably name the damn arena after him

If he goes to the NBA:
He will be a mega millionaire
He will have job security until his first losing season, then will get fired
He may or may not win at the NBA level
The fans and town will like him only if he gets Chicago into the finals, otherwise, they will boo and hate him
He will have to coach a minimum of 82 games a year
He will, in all likelihood, not have statues erected in his honor or have the arena named after him

Yep... it's really not a wise decision to leave such a stable, high paying job to go into the circus that is NBA coaching. There really isn't much glory in pro coaching anymore either... it's all about the players. In college, it's about the coaching. Example... People always say Duke, Coach K, etc won another championship. 10 years from now people won't say Okafor won a championship, they will say Coach K did... in the NBA, it is the opposite for the most part. It is defined by players. Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Lebron, Duncan, Parker, etc.

Also....The coach he would be replacing is the fastest coach in NBA history to win 100 games, NBA Coach of the Year, had a 62 win season, and in other years has finished 2nd and 3rd in NBA Coach of the Year voting..... AND HE IS GOING TO GET FIRED.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this one. We will see what he does and how long it takes before he gets fired if he does take it.
