GAME 13 - OKLAHOMA (9-3) vs Mississippi Valley State (1-12) 7:00pm CST on SECNETWORK+

Fair, but I think there is a reason why most of these teams you listed are not also always in the tournament.

Iowa (last appearance 2023 - 8 seed)
Georgia (9 seed last year, 1 appearance in last 10 years)
Cal (last appearance 2016)
Miami (last appearance 2023)
Boston college (last appearance 2009)
Texas a&m (Buzz Williams last 3 years - outlier)
Missouri (6 seed last year, 4 tournaments in the last 12 years)
Umass (last appeareance in 2014)
S Carolina (last appearance in 2024, 6 seed, R1 exit)
WV (last appearance in 2023, 9 seed)

Also the outlier, Aggies non-con last year was 34th.
Yea that’s not a very impressive list of teams, and some are in their first year with a new coach — it’s somewhat understandable they’d schedule soft. We are in year five, and have Moser’s hyped portal class on board. The biggest issue is that this very clearly is his preferred way of scheduling. I can’t stand the guy as a coach but I don’t think he is a complete idiot. He obviously understands how bad the teams he lines up are, and how that affects our metrics, yet he keeps doing it. It’s too bad we can’t hire a GM to take over all scheduling responsibilities from him (until the glorious day when PM isn’t our coach).

it's a shame the russian wasn't here at the start of the season.
he would have been starting by now and really made an impact in the conference games.

so wague has been here 3 semesters....and the russian 3 days.
let's compare stat lines from last night.

wague....0 for 1 from the field. 1 for 2 at the free throw line. 4 fouls. 3 rebounds. 1 pt. in 13+ mins.
russian. 2 for 3 from the field. 2 for 2 on free throws. 0 fouls. 4 rebounds. 6 pts and an assist in 18+ mins.

anyone know if elatonsev speaks english or if moser has to coach using a translator?

wague had a bad game sure ... but he has been one of OU's BEST players this season ..

you are massively discounting him .. and how much OU needs him on the court ..

Last bit of fun, bc I know stats do upset some:

Kirill Elatontsev is rated low with 28 possessions in EvanMiya at an OBPR of 0.26.

HOWEVER

With him on the court, the Adjusted Team Off Eff is a whopping 171.4, highest on the team by almost 50 points. Defense is also the worst at 115.7, but still...small sample size yet encouraging. PER of 21 with a TS% of 75.9 is solid. PER is tied for 5th on the team.

This is a bit hyperbolic and hopium, bc it is ONE game vs the WORST team in Div-I, but I like to think Kirill is our x-factor in making a good run. (let a boy dream...)
I would like to state that stats do not upset me and I find them useful 😂. Just think that the application of them is often flawed.

He seemed to understand what Moser was saying on the bench. Also, most other countries speak English as a second language. It's only the US that is primarily monolingual.

The kid has a name. I know it’s hard for you but show some class cornball. Boomer

Yes, I don’t expect Mo to ever have a big stat game against a zone. He’s just not that player. I’m just happy we have some potential depth at 5 now. New guy looks like he might be good enough to help but we’ll know more over the next few weeks.

My guess is the new guy will play great some games & people will freak out, then he’ll play bad some games & people will freak out.

Exactly right. All I wanted to see last night was how he moves, how his hands are, and what his shot looks like. Was pretty happy with all those things but definitely not going to get too excited or bummed till we see a few games from him. With Kai injured, the timing definitely works out well for us.

Level of play definitely matters, but I did like what I saw. Especially 2 practices in. I really hope he gets an extra year because he looks like something.

Agree. And having played professionally, he also likely has a pretty high basketball IQ. One thing I’ll be looking for is his strength. Obviously last night’s game gave us no indication of how he will be in that category given the level of competition.

Yes, but I did like how it seemed he wanted to go looking for contact.

Off topic a little bit. But it’s sad that foreigners were looked at as skilled, but soft. Now Americans are clearly softer & the skill gap is widening.

Arvydas Sabonis has words about that...lol

I just know that he moves well and will be a good depth piece when Wague gets in foul trouble. That is plenty a positive add for me (even though I hope he is the starter by seasons end bc of his scoring prowess)

Leave it to Moser to start Godwin for 7 years and bench our better bigs, I wouldn't hold it past him.

Up Next Ole Miss...who have had a stinker of a year so far.

Games vs. Top-150 KenPom? 1-6.
Record vs Top-50? 0-4, which to be fair, they had a decent stretch of tough games to play.

I think Ole Miss will be a good barometer to how well scheduling has affected us. I will say, if we ever have a year to go above .500 in the SEC, this would be one of them, as the conference is playing down compared to last year.

If we could just play some damn defense, we would all have no issues watching this team play.

I don’t have any issues watching OU play in any sport. Not a fair weather fan. Boomer
