--Game Day-- 7:30 FoxSports OU vs UTRGV

Nice win but really pathetic they opened the season at UT Rio Grand Valley... Thought this was a top 20 program? That would be like the football team opening next season against the Mississippi State Delta Devils on the road..

Stats look pretty good. They made the same amount of shots as OU did, but OU hit 22 free throws and they hit 9, which was really the difference in the game.. Rebounding margin was too close for an opponent like this as well. 43-37 advantage.

Could be a little bit of fools gold here, but we should know a lot more after they play UTSA on the road... again, wtf is up with this schedule? Really bad.

How’s the rock you’ve been living under?

You read any of the back story of playing there?

I don't understand when you say "Calixte, the point guard who couldn’t score finished with 15 points, while shooting 3 of 4 from three."

Go back and read some of the posts (not from you, what others have said) about Calixte and you’ll understand. His assists are not what they should be for our starting point guard, but I knew he could score. He had to be a scorer on his Maine team.

As you know, I have been high on Calixte and Reynolds since before the season got underway. They’re not game changers. They’re just solid basketball players who are doing a good job of filling a need after McGusty and Shepherd decided to transfer.

Not only that, but look at the opening games for teams across the country. The vast majority of power conference schools open against teams like this for a couple games before transitioning to tougher opponents. We are one of two power conference teams to open with two true road games.

but did you see them wilt under the pressure of the situation? no. not a single knee buckled. They came out playing solid D and hitting shots. They moved well without the ball. The backcourt guys did a reasonably good job against that Levi kid who has some exceptionally quick hands.

We opened on the road and were dominant overall. I think thats a big positive.

Then we consider CJ's excellent game. That was just huge!

And Brady's activity level inside defensively and offensively. A real eye opener because I was figuring him more the Luke Axtell type (even though axtell could be feisty inside sometimes). Manek actually showed a little mean streak in there.

We’ve got a bunch of body language experts. Clearly Doolittle was frustrated. Fouls out in 13 mins.
Cut the guy some slack. He he plays starter mins 26-30 mins he may score 18-20.

Overall I thought we were pretty good.

First half, regarding Doolittle’s body language. He was pouting as he left floor and didn’t shake hands with guys at the end of the bench. Left the last guys hanging. Just a bad look.

I don’t understand this take at all

Do most teams open up vs a ranked opponent? There are only 25 of those

The football team routinely opens up with cupcakes if I recall

I mentioned Doolittle’s body language several days ago. It’s not only a bad look, it can be contagious if Lon doesn’t put a stop to it now. The chemistry on this team is light years better than last year. I would not want to see one player destroy the team unity by acting like a five year old.

Agreed 100%. This team held them to only .96 points per possession. They only did that 4 or 5 times the entire season last season. Really good start for the team.

And it's sort of ridiculous to complain about opening with 2 true road games when Kruger is trying to do something to help his former assistants.

I hate to say much about Doolittle, I'm surprised that he didn't transfer before last year. If he is really unhappy Lon should help him move on. I agree one guy can turn a team in the wrong direction

well, if it was 2 road games against stiff competition that we had no chance to better then I might agree. Here you have a road game (in a nice new arena BTW) against a team we should better at least in size and athleticism. Followed by a road game against a better team that will pose a stiffer challenge but we still might have a chance to win if we play well. The fact this helps Lon's former assistants is just a bonus.

I guess I didn't realize Lon's priorities were to help former employees. I thought they were supposed to give the team the best chance to succeed and play a lot of games for the home fans who pay a lot of money for season tickets.

I'll try to make it more simple for you by typing in all CAPS.

LON WAS INDUCTED IN THE THE UTRGV HALL OF FAME ON THURSDAY NIGHT. HE STARTED HIS HEAD COACHING CAREER THERE WHEN IT WAS PAN AMERICAN. THE FACT THAT THEIR TEAM IS COACHED BY A FORMER ASSISTANT IS A COINCIDENCE. GET OVER IT!

OU tickets are about as cheap as you'll ever find for a top 15-20 program. And seeing as how LNC would be half full if we brought in Golden State for a nonconference game while football was still in season, I don't think we should be tailoring our schedule for that reason. Plus we play in the best league in America, so it's not like out fans are lacking for high quality home games.

I look at it as an opportunity. Road games are (2X)experience games. To get those AND a victory is a bonus. To get those and a victory and a stellar performance from a couple of players who we need to perform is thumbs up all around. Always thought that any cupcake games we get non-conf. should be played on the road.

Here's hoping Monday's tilt proves to be a cupcake game, but I suspect it will be tougher than that.

bieniemy gives me flashbacks of cousins bringing the ball up his freshman year. he will be better for it, but not without some harrowing moments and a few posters having meltdowns in game threads.

"Its hard to win on the road." --Coach Boynton

Getting a solid road performance and winning on the road is a great way for this Oklahoma team to begin the long journey of the 2018-19 basketball season.

  • Lon and Barbara Kruger were inducted into the UT-Rio Grande Valley Hall of Fame on Thursday night.
  • Coach Kruger helped Lew Hill get hired by UT-Rio Grande Valley in late March 2016, after Coach Hill spent five seasons on Kruger's staff at OU.
  • The University of Oklahoma plays the first game to "open up" the UT-Rio Grande Valley new arena.
  • UTRGV athletic director Chris King on Coach Kruger: "He's 100 percent class, he's 100 percent genuine and he's 100 percent gentleman,” King said. “The type of person he is, he's always going to give back to those that helped him.”

Why are we recruiting guards, especially guys that are either pg or combo-guard types, that can't bring the ball up the floor against pressure?

We should be better than that.

IF you watched these first 2 games and that's all you got from seeing Bienimy then you should just give up watching basketball because you just dont get it.
