--Game Day-- 7:30 FoxSports OU vs UTRGV

IF you watched these first 2 games and that's all you got from seeing Bienimy then you should just give up watching basketball because you just dont get it.

I didn't "get anything" from watching him. I was just responding to a comment made by another poster.

Like moths to a flame........

Look, I'm dreading the hard times to come this season as much as anybody, but I don't see much to ***** about from a win like that one. That was a really solid performance. I think it should be celebrated any time you get a big lead on the road and keep the home team at arm's length.

sorry for sounding negative. it’s just ptsd from cousins’ freshman year. i didn’t say he couldn’t, or shouldn’t, bring up the ball. he will be fine for the most part. lots of alley oops to kuath hopefully. i am just calling the poster meltdowns now. bieniemy will be really good. like a hield/cousins combo.

it was a nice win. calixte coming out aggressive, reynolds diving on the floor late in a basically decided game, james showing that maybe this is the year. while it will be a difficult year, i am still excited because i just have no idea what to expect from game to game. lol.

No need to apologize, red recluse. I knew exactly what you meant. Some here may have forgotten, or want to forget, the critical reviews of Cousins’ freshman season when a few posters on this board questioned the wisdom of “wasting a scholarship on him.” We know now how that turned out.

I like what I have seen of Jamal Bieniemy. I have already gone on record in saying that OU’s coaches found a gem in this young man. He’s going to be a good one in the not too distant future!

well, if it was 2 road games against stiff competition that we had no chance to better then I might agree. Here you have a road game (in a nice new arena BTW) against a team we should better at least in size and athleticism. Followed by a road game against a better team that will pose a stiffer challenge but we still might have a chance to win if we play well. The fact this helps Lon's former assistants is just a bonus.

What is it you're disagreeing with?

I guess I didn't realize Lon's priorities were to help former employees. I thought they were supposed to give the team the best chance to succeed and play a lot of games for the home fans who pay a lot of money for season tickets.

Did you realize that 1 of the purposes of non-conference games is to prepare the team for conference games? If you don't think playing road games does that then I don't think you can be helped.

But keep complaining if that brings you joy.

I didn't see anything wrong with your comment and am not sure why others felt the need to jump you about it. Bieniemy had a solid 1st game. He's a freshman. He's going to make mistakes. If others saw a guy who wasn't good enough to play at OU and can make that call after 1 game where he did a pretty good job, then I would suggest that they check their TV reception.

bieniemy gives me flashbacks of cousins bringing the ball up his freshman year. he will be better for it, but not without some harrowing moments and a few posters having meltdowns in game threads.

There are some similarities, good catch. Hopefully he won't be shell shocked by the end of the season like Isaiah seemed. Some fans seemed down on Cousins for most of his career based on his 1st year, when he had to play before he was ready.

And I think Kruger deserves credit for seeing the big picture with Cousins and not burying him on the bench his freshman year. He had to be tempted to bench him in order to improve our odds of winning speciic games, but he knew Cousins was a huge part of our future and we'd be better off in the long run if he played through the mistakes and got valuable experience. It's idiotic for anyone to expect Bieniemy or any freshman to arrive on campus a finished product, so to anyone who can't understand why he might struggle at times running the point against pressure, come back to reality.

A lot more was expected of Cousins in his freshman year than will be expected of Bieniemy. Fans do tend to be impatient with younger players. Hopefully they'll be more patient with Bieniemy since the other veteran players will be asked to carry much more of the load than he will this season.

Initially I don't think people expected much from Cousins at all his 1st couple of years. This was a guy who was very lightly recruited. OU got really lucky from Lew Hill's connection to that area.

I agree he won't have to carry the load like Cousins minutes wise, but I'm not sure anyone on here would've predicted Cousins playing that much his freshman year.

Cousins was a combo guard who wanted to play the point in college after playing that position his senior year in high school. He was promised a chance to play the point if he signed with OU. Lon kept that promise, but Isaiah wasn’t ready to deal with the pressure his freshman season. He came in better prepared to run the offense his sophomore season and the rest is history.

By all accounts he’s still improving. Here’s hoping he gets a chance to put his skills on display in the league someday!

I meant that the coaches expected Cousins to carry much more of the load than these coaches will expect of Bieniemy, not that fans expected a ton from him. He had to play a ton of minutes & handle the ball against tough defenses. Bieniemy is going to be brought along a lot more slowly.
