Re: >>>>>Gameday | Oklahoma vs. East Central Pregame Notes<<<<<

I agree. You just don't want him going like 0/4 on those during games.

Well if he never hits them then the threat goes away. but if the threat is legitimate then it spurs action by the transition D and it often gives you the first mismatch of the possession. so it's not so much the percentage as the threat - but the percentage does affect that.

No different than last year or two or three. Our outside shot is looking good, though, and we're able to get down low rather easily on these guys.

Agreed. It’s like we play off of three point shooters inviting them to take those shots. Gotta be by design because, as you said, it never changes from one season to the next.

Appears defense will be an issue again. Exhibition or not, it happened constantly in Australia. 1 time is a fluke, 2 times a trend, 5 or 6 is a bad pattern that shows no change from the past couple of years.

Certainly inconsistency seems to be a constant thus far (not unusual though). I like the overplays and the steals, but there are still issues with help defense and communication....just like last year. I hope/expect it to get better as the season goes on because we don't have a lot of margin of error with our schedule.

Just started the game on the DVR, why didn't McGusty start the game?

Polla has a huge head. He is a big man. He has surprisingly quick hands too. Thats 2 steals.

He has surprisingly good feet for a man his size and experience level. I can see why they recruited him.

Impressed overall. TY special, James impressive if not our best player all around, bringing a talented Kam off the bench to lead that 2nd group or when other teams beat defender is a tad tired.

We are going to give up some points, so no one freak out. The thought is a little in my opinion, the teams we play can’t score like we can, we are going to outscore most.

Defense will continue to get better and better.

Doolittle still makes a huge difference when he gets back. 9ppg and 8reb as a true freshmen last year. Still think he starts soon after returning.

Doolittle will help a lot. Manek clearly can play, but he's going to have issues defensively until he gets adjusted to the college game. Those guys are looking to get the ball quickly and get down the court quickly so sometimes that shows up on defense by them trying to hard to cheat for the steal and quick break. Then we end up out of position. But they're good offensively and will improve defensively.

Re: >>>>>Gameday | Oklahoma vs. East Central Pregame Notes<<<<<

Even without Doolittle, who could easily find his way back into the starting lineup at some point, this is a very deep team. We didn’t lose much last night when our second unit was on the floor. Yes, we were playing East Central, a D-II team, but the talent in our reserves was obvious just the same.

I agree with what CoachTalk and chuckb said about our defense. It will get better. The offensive weapons are already there. If this team takes that next step to an improved, lockdown defense, they could make some noise this season. The depth is also there to press full court for long periods if Coach Kruger wants to do it.
