Gameday OU vs Stanford 830ish ESPN2

We played awful for a good part of the night....it's gonna happen in a 30+ game season. If we look as bad tomorrow night....then I will begin to have concerns that we've been fed a lot of bunk from a few on this board (who are close to the team).

If Brady isn't going to hustle, we need to give a good chunk of his minutes to Vic

I completely agree. I hate it when players don’t hustle, pout, and act like babies. Be a man and play hard every minute.

We are the world's worst inside the Sprint Center. Maybe we can snag a win tomorrow and get the hell out of Kansas City with some semblance of pride.

I was trying to figure out why we looked so terrible tonight when we looked good on other neutral courts... and damn, Lon’s teams ALWAYS lay absolute eggs in the Sprint Center

I fell for this team during the Oregon State game and I’m not willing to throw in the towel. I also don’t want to trash players just for the heck of it. But I will say: I hope all of the starters (aside from Reaves) ride the bench for the first few minutes tomorrow. Getting in an immediate 17-0 hole is absolutely unacceptable. How are you not ready to play?!

So, just got home from the game. To say nothing went our way from the tip is an understatement. I am concerned that we have some players that let a bad start define their effort and performance for the rest of the game (not naming names).

Excited to play Missouri tomorrow. I hope we got all the stink off us tonight. We are due for a win in that cursed Sprint Center. :OU-logo:

Fitzsimmons, who spent the first 39 minutes of the game on the Stanford bench, is a complete tool.

He’d jump out of his permanent chair and scream at every OU shooter that would come near the corner. That crap gets coached out of in JV ball. So bush.

1) Awful shooting. 80% FT team goes 30%.

2) Defensive rebounding was terrible.

3) Tell me more about Devion Harmon. Not to be overly critical of the young man, but he was a consensus Top 50 kid this year. What are his skills to lead to that type of ranking. He certainly appears engaged and attempts to be a leader. He has good quickness, but not game changing. I don’t see him passing guys to buckets - maybe it’s the offense? Has a ridiculously long release on that jumper. They don’t put you on Team USA if you can’t play, but what are his exceptional traits that am I missing? Is he a factor defensively? Granted, Bieniemy has had an awful start to the season as well, but I don’t see any reason Harmon should be starting. I think they’d be better of lf with Williams, at least provides some size.

4) Good news is you get to play again tomorrow!

Biggest problem I see other than the lack of defense is not only this game but other too, OU plays like they're great shooting team...they are not

But the starting 5 “on paper” are all good outside shooters.

Bieniemy and Reaves entered the season over 40%. Doolittle 39% and Manek 37%.

Outside shooting should be a huge strength for this team and it’s been horrible.

Is it just a slump or have they simply gotten worse?

Manek looked like he didn't want to be there, he had no hustle, seem to have a poor attitude. I notice he hit the floor one time and didn't even try to get back to the other end, if I had been the coach his butt would have been on the bench but at the same time there would have been a few others sitting down and the young guys would have been on the court.

Just one of those games where nothing went right... The big stat for me though was losing 51-31 on the glass. This team sucks at rebounding and it will show against better teams. Gonna need to shoot really well in those games.

Nothing went right because the team played like crap. You can't take ****ty shots and not hustle and make stupid decisions and expect everything to go right.

Stanford is really good. And we have very little depth on offense. Really outside of 3 guys we aren't getting much offensively right consistently and that's been a problem all year so far. Tough loss to a good team but we just gotta get better.

I think Lon will need to take a look at starting Kuath instead of Harmon. Go big. Harmon is struggling and the team continues to have slow starts and struggle on offense. Having Kuath will help with offensive and defensive rebounding and rim protection. More than anything, this team needs to find a consistent third three point shooter outside of Manek and Reaves. Teams are clogging the paint for Doo.

I agree to a point, but what do we actually do on offense to get others involved? We run no semblance of an offensive set, it’s all one pass or no pass into a contested shot. A lot of teams wish they had 3 scoring threats, but they find ways to score through good offense and ball movement. They also play good defense which leads to live-ball turnovers and easy buckets. We do none of that. We didn’t do it against the bad teams early and we still won, it’s just that we finally ran into a decent team which magnified our deficiencies.

I keep hearing people say we need somebody besides Reaves and Manek. Reality is Manek is below 30% on 3 point percentage for the season so I'm not sure why people are acting like he's not part of the problem. I don't want to pile on Brady, but the fact is we need him, Dolittle, Bienemy and Harmon to all step their game up or it's going to turn into a frustrating offensive season.

Starters:

PF: Kristian Doolittle
PF: Brady Manek

Bench
PG: Devion Harmon
SG: Jalen Hill (backup for both guard spots)
SG: Jalen Hill
PF: Victor Iwukar
C: Kur Kuath

I would start Vic over Manek. We need someone inside with athleticism who actually hustles and doesn't play like he'd rather be a guard.

I agree with this, Williams might give the starters a much-needed boost and also take some pressure off of Harmon

I mean JB has been just as bad as Harmon when you think about it.. Manek is just soft and doesn't hustle.. I like Harmon, Reaves and then either go big big with Manek, Victor and Doolittle or throw in Wiliams and at the 3. Lon doesn't seem willing to play his back up bigs much again this year and I think Doolittle and Manek just get so burned out early in games.

Manek is what he is... and he is a very reliable 15/5 guy. You can't pull him. I agree he isn't a tough player, but he is way better than Victor at this point.
