Gameday OU vs Stanford 830ish ESPN2

demeanor does not in any way relate to maturity

yeah I'm gonna hafta disagree with this. demeanor most definitely relates to maturity. the development of the pre-frontal cortex in human males is a HUGE factor for changes in behavior ... and it is the very heart of "mental maturation".

Since I didn't see the Stanford game, I don't have an informed opinion. But, I did see enough in the games that I have seen to make some suggestions:

1) this is a very young and inexperienced team. Let them develop a little before making judgements.

2) I have seen some remarkable talent, but it makes the mistakes that you would see of freshmen. A good team will expose that. Apparently, Stanford did.

3) hopefully, some leadership emerges that stops bad runs and has some fight.

Keep the faith. These kids may be good.

We do not have a young team. We start a sr and 2 jr's. And that group started out 0-17 last night against Stanford. That just can't happen. A sr and 2 jr's have to be ready to play hard and play smart basketball.

And the freshman that starts has been touted as a possible “one and done” by many. They just weren’t and haven’t been ready to play for some reason.

Except that is rigged, which is fine, they are mostly all rigged... and was listed at 6'6'' 200 coming out of high school. I am sure he will go to the combine after this season and we will know for sure, but I doubt he is 6'7'' or 232.

So 6-7/235 on the “roster” can’t be a banger. It has to be a barefoot 6-7/235?

Considering every school lies on the roster, you’re not making any sense.

You can be 7'5'' 365 pounds and not be a banger... Ryan Spangler wasn't very big and he was a banger. Its a mentality, a style of play.

Ugh. Such a generalization. There have been tons of great athletes who have horrible body language/demeanor who actually play better that way, and who are without question mature, grown men. The problem with Manek is that when he starts to sulk and gets down on himself, he most definitely doesn't play better, and frequently doesn't hustle because he is too busy beating himself up. I don't care if he slaps his hands, cusses, shakes his head, etc., as long as he starts sprinting back on defense and doesn't let one mistake become five.

Ugly game from start to finish. I will rinse my hands and move on without drawing any overstated conclusions about one November game. If it happens another time or two I'll start to worry.

In my mind, that excuse isn't going to fly this year.

Our two best players are a senior and a junior, both of which have played a bunch and started a bunch at OU.

Reeves is a junior with a year on campus, and 2 years of significant playing time at WSU. Bieniemy is a soph, but basically played starter minutes last year.

Harmon doesn't have the experience, but my expectation for a kid rated as high as he was is that he should be able to come in and play hard, defend, and run the offense. I KNEW he'd struggle scoring. He isn't a true scorer.

And Williams off the bench has two of years of college ball.

If you'd said the bench was inexperienced, I'd agree. But the team overall, and especially the starters and Williams, can't play the inexperience card.

Not sure why you called what I said a "generalization". What I proffered about the PFC is fact. Until the PFC matures the limbic system controls behavior in a much more emotional manner. This is fact, not opinion and not "country logic".

The generalization is that demeanor always reflects maturity. Some very mature people have bad body languages, which is the thing everyone dislikes about Manek. My point is that I don't care much about body language, what actually matters is whether he plays hard even when he is frustrated.

Are you really gonna tell me you cannot remember a few times when Manek would be moping and not make it back up the floor quickly enough in transition?

I'm proud of this team's fight. This is how you bounce back and weather the storm during the rough patches.

I used to feel the exact same way. Until I was about 21. Then I had a coach show me some not-so-flattering film. He said ‘the guys look to you as a leader. Do you think that has a positive effect?’

It all changed then. For the most part

You misread my post. I think he constantly fails to hustle back. That's what pisses me off. I don't care at all if he shakes his head and cusses. Some people can do that and still keep competing well. Pete Sampras had horrible body language but it never negatively affected his play. There are lots of athletes like that. Brady, unfortunately, isn't one.
