Game 11 - JUMPMAN INVITATIONAL #14 OKLAHOMA (10-0) vs #21 MICHIGANOKLAHOMA (8-2) 8pm CST on ESPN2

There was no chemistry on that team. Fears has leaders around him and his ego doesn’t seem as large either.

That was very clear watching that game in person last night. Trae was unreal statistically, but the team was awful the second half of the year and barely made the Dance despite being ranked in the top-3 in January. Let's wait until the end of the year before ranking Fears with the all-time OU greats freshman seasons. He certainly has a chance to be ahead of Blake's freshman season. We sometimes forget he did not become a superstar until his sophomore season. He was just "very good" as a freshman. Tisdale has a national award for freshmen named after him and Alvan Adams was unreal as a freshman...no penetrating that brick wall...but top-4 is attainable for Fears.

I compare him to a more fluid and more athletic Tre Mann.
I was actually thinking about this today who he reminds me of. He doesn't have the same body type, but their games are very similar.....it's SGA. SGA is arguably the best open-court player in the league.....can score from anywhere and against anyone (size or speed). While they don't quite move the same way (SGA is so fluid), both players are lightning quick and deceive you into thinking they aren't until they blow by you. Fears doesn't have SGA's mid-range game, but I do like Fears footwork after his jump-stops in the lane. That kid is going to be a really good one....we have to enjoy him while we can.

IF the 4 FR seasons we are doing are Adams, Tis, Blake and Trae with one Rushmore gotta drop.

I am a little on board with the lack of team engagement with Trae. But, if Fears keeps it up and the Sooners keep it going through conference play....

Blake really matured as a player between year 1 and 2. Year 1 was, while obviously an incredible talent, pretty mediocre foul shooter and played out of control some. Though the tourney win over St. Joe's was a personal fave since all the "pundits" were picking against us....

I think Blake is the most vulnerable to drop for FR year Rushmore, all time Sooner that is gonna still be Blake.......Fears would have to show a lot and stay. Which making FR Mt. Rushmore prolly rules out.

the way Blake took Hansborough on the baseline for a jam on one of the first possessions of that game was ridiculous. No doubt who the best player on the floor was that night....but UNC was a great team, for sure.

I would take Blake's freshman year over Fears, but he definitely did take it to another level as a sophomore. Blake as a sophmore was the best college player I've seen in 20-30 years, and I don't think it's particularly close. Some people say Hansborough was an all-time great, but he didn't look like he deserved to even share the court with Blake in his final game.

Fears is definitely ahead of Buddy. If he keeps this up, there's no doubt he'll be a top 5 OU freshman during my lifetime.

No disagreement from me. All I was saying was to let the year play out before ranking Fears. I do think top-4 is attainable, though. Going into this season, the fifth best OU freshman of all time would have to be Tim McCallister followed by Jeff Webster. Fears still has work to do to be better than them as well. You are also correct in that Fears is already better than Buddy Hield at the same stage. I doubt any further data will change that.

SGA is a lot taller than Fears. That's why I wouldn't go with that comparison. Other than that, not too shabby.

I was gonna start a thread on some draft talk. It’ll change. That’s why I said instant reactions. But the tools are there to be a star.
Please do. I love a good conversation about the NBA Draft. Always fascinates me how teams put stock into certain players.

Leaders is an understatement. That man has legit 4 5th year seniors around him guiding him. His situation is damn near perfect for a cocky Freshman. Those 5th year seniors that played at the Woffords and other small programs of the world can keep him even keel.

And they seem to really like him, which is a great sign.

I've been impressed by the brief interviews I've seen with Fears. He seems to have his head on straight and to be reasonably humble.

From today's press conference, with Moore and Miles taking questions. It probably has to do with my age, but it makes me awfully proud when I see Sooner athletes coming off as humble, hardworking and grateful, praising their teammates and their coaches and just generally representing my alma mater with class and humility, as both of these young men do.
