Game 8- SEC/ACC Challenge #21 OKLAHOMA (7-0) vs. GEORGIA TECH (4-3) 8pm CST on ESPNU

We've never won a tournament that mattered like the Maui and the BFA. The other tournaments we've won in the past, I did not feel like this afterwards. It was oh, cool. We beat Seton Hall, random school that is okay at best, and another okay at best basketball school.
Did we not win Maui when we beat Villanova buddy's year?

Speaking of, I listened to a pod yesterday with two well-known and respected college hoops reporters and they think that the 3-game tourneys, including Maui and Atlantis, may have to change their formats soon because apparently a lot of coaches don't like playing 3 games in those events. They said the coaches and schools don't want to give up that many home games, since they lose out on revenue. As a fan, I sure hope they are wrong. I agree with you -- two-game events just don't have the same juice, even if all four teams are good.
Anything for more $$$'s to the teams.. lame.

Killing college sports a little bit more day by day. Can't wait for the expanded 76 team march madness.. Shortly thereafter, to be replaced with the 100 team (sigh) ect.

No, that was just a head-to-head game at Pearl Harbor. We haven't been in Maui since Capel led us to an 0-3 record with a loss to Chaminade in the 7th place game in 2010.

This has me wondering -- any news on what event we are in next season?

14-2 for the SEC in the challenge. Incredible performance. Even though it’s just one game per team, that should further help in the NET and other rating systems. The conference has a ridiculous record so far, including against other power conference teams.

26-3 SEC vs ACC this season overall .... that is a crazy record ..

All good news for us. Maybe we'll be the 2nd best conference this year AND you know the ESPN aspect will prop all of the SEC regardless bc of $$
I think we may end up ahead of the Big 12 -- Houston and Baylor have lost their big games (very tough schedules), and the league as a whole isn't off to as good a start as the SEC. I'm still curious to see how the bottom few teams in the SEC stack up compared to what we have been used to in the Big 12. I think LSU just lost a guy to a season-ending injury. but there don't appear to be many (any?) complete pushovers in the league.

I wanted to get tickets to a game this year in Norman for my family and myself. I was looking through games and wanted to see them against an “easier” opponent because we’ve never actually seen them win in person. I chose Vanderbilt because well they normally are bad. Well I just looked at their schedule and they are 7-1! Not the pushover I thought they’d be.

Update: they’re actually 8-1

It’s just shocking to see how far ACC basketball has fallen. They’re approaching ACC football levels of mediocrity.

they have not been great for a long time now .. they have not been a top 3 conf for almost 10 years

But they have been allowed to rest on their laurels, it seems. The media, with perhaps some exceptions, still treat them like a top conference and they tend to get the benefit of the doubt at tourney selection time (or so it seems to me--i don't really have evidence to back up that assertion).

I know it’s been going that way the last 10 years. It’s still shocking. They’ve been the premier basketball conference forever and now they’re an afterthought. Where is all that talent going? To the SEC.

The SEC has become so much more profitable and powerful that it’s destroying other conferences. They’ve been a major driver of realignment either directly or indirectly. Eventually, it will be the Big10, SEC, and everyone else will be fighting for scraps. It’s not good for the overall health of college athletics but at least OU is part of it now instead of fighting against it.

SEC BIG 12 Big East and Big 10 ..

keep in mind that the SEC big money really just started this season ..

and that the Big 10 still is the conf that makes the most ..
