Doesn't matter if he's a one-year or two-year guy. If we can't get him cleared pretty soon, Lon will be forced to find another guard to replace Hornbeak.

That's the problem he has to sit out next year. We need him next year. I don't know why the NCAA has ruled this and maybe they will change their mind. But as of now we aren't planning on signing him.

Curious. Reportedly, Giovanni McLean is academically eligible to get into OU. Why would the NCAA require any junior college transfer to sit out a year when transferring to a D-1 team? I've never heard of such a thing.

These are the types of stories that make me hate the NCAA. What about this kids story makes them think he is trying to circumvent the system and take shortcuts? He obviously had some crappy years around HS and immediately after, in no way does it seem like was just hopping school to school finding loopholes in academics or something. He's gone to prep and juco, and is allegedly academically eligible at a D1 university in OU, so they are basically hurting his chances at playing at the school he has chosen to go to. They just don't make sense sometimes. (ie Jalen Saunders magically is eligible 7 games into the season... uh was he not the same kid 7 weeks ago?)

There have been guys who haven't cleared the NCAA clearinghouse & weren't allowed in school.. but I've never heard of the NCAA forcing a player to sit if they've gone through the clearinghouse & are otherwise eligible..

Did he play in unsanctioned leagues or has his clock ran out?

My guess is it is focused around those two areas.

I doubt that it is a clock issue. But, I do think you are probably on to something with the unsanctioned league.

James Hale said he thought it was all about HS eligibility saying the NCAA is contending it took him 6 years to graduate from HS. I guess his regular HS time ran out and he took some other classes and then went to prep school. James said he eventually got a GED. Somehow the NCAA is saying his clock has run out.

Evidently OU is hopeful he has 2 years to play, but are sure he will get at least one. If the timeline is an issue, I can't imagine they would let him redshirt a year and then still have a year to play.

No, Gio won't sign with OU. vbdad is right. It has to do with him going to HS for all 3 years and then having to get his GED, and finally going to prep school. There is some obscure rule that applies. He would have to sit out next season and could play the following year, but OU needs someone next season to backup Woodard.

I guess they will try to bring in Dinjiyl Walker soon and try to sign him.

Been around these boards for a lot of years, and I can say Vbad and Coachtalk are usually pretty accurate when they report something......

That is why I said the above on PG 2 when posters questioned Vbad's information. The guy has never reported anything inaccurate on this board, and has released some good info more than once.......
