Good luck from ISU

I realize it offends many of our posters when one of us says anything even remotely critical of ISU fans. But I've spent enough time perusing the ISU basketball forums that I'm convinced Cyclone fans are no friends of OU basketball.

And if anyone wants to say those forum guys are not typical ISU fans, I don't believe it for a second.

Way to paint an entire fan base with a broad brush and based on the comments of some morons on a message board.

I appreciate cyclonefan stopping by and his well-wishes. Whether or not they're indicative of the ISU fan base concerns me not one bit.

Too many here are out there looking for things to get upset about.

Thanks for the encouragement, Cyclone_81.

If our big guys keep playing right, we'll take Villanova.

I've always compared Georges Niang to Doug McDermott who plays for the Bulls now. Range, a lot of moves, not spectacular athleticism. Do you think he'll exceed McDermott at the next level?

Incorrect. I've dealt with NU fans in Lincoln and in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. I didn't care much for them either place. Just like ISU fans, a bunch of drunks who like to fight.

Oddly enough, I've never had issues with KU or Mizzou fans but I don't particularly like KU fans except this year they were very nice at the Big 12 tourney. They love Hield and Kruger...I've never seen KU fans so overtly cheering for anything OU until this year.

I'm guessing you have never traveled to other stadiums or campuses outside the state of Oklahoma (or Texas)? I will tell you I generally keep my mouth shut and cheer for my team. In Lincoln, 2005, my 9 year old son and I were leaving the stadium after the game. He had ahold of my belt loop as I was walking thru crowds to get to our car. An old lady NU fan tells me to "F--- off". I turn around thinking she was talking to someone else and her son who was about my age threatens to kick my a$$. Not a single NU fan, and we had probably 20 around us, said one word to the guy. I understand every fanbase has bad apples and the guy threatening to fight me didn't bother me much but the fact 20 NU fans in the area who saw and heard it said nothing, to me, that was telling of how their fan base has become. They were great fans when they were winning but now they are in the crapper -- and they were bad that year -- they aren't so great.

I've seen OU fans bother visiting fans and I have seen other OU fans tell them to shut up or at least take up for the visitors.
The worst experience I've had as a visiting fan (well, not counting the 2004 Sugar bowl, which is obvious) was 2009 in Lincoln.

I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out who would make it in the pros and who wouldn't. Georges has to go to the right team who would utilize his offensive skills and hide his defensive liabilities. Hope it happens.

I know some clone fans as well, and they do not root for OU. All I said was you said "cylone nation" is rooting for ou...really doubt that. Out of those 14K I would guess MAYBE 200 would pull for OU...

You can root all ya want. Thanks...

A more accurate assessment would be maybe 200 would not cheer for OU out of the 14K but you think whatever you want. I'm done trying to stick up for our fans or your team. I came on here to wish you good luck. I'm done. You go ahead and think we are all jerks. I am not going to lose sleep tonight thinking you don't like Iowa State fans. 100 years or so ago I was in left field fielding insults from Oklahoma fans dodging pennies and other things they threw at me while I was playing baseball in Norman. But I am not going to hold that against the whole Oklahoma fanbase. Once again I say to the OU fans who care.....Good luck this weekend.

I APOLOGIZE FOR THE COPY AND PASTING BEING IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT. THIS WAS A WHOLE THREAD ON CYCLONE REPORT RESPONDING TO THE GUYS WHO THINK THE MAJORITY OF IOWA STATE FANS CHEER AGAINST OU. I WILL LET YOU GUYS DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS. THIS WAS A THREAD ON AP PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Guess helping his team to an early exit sealed it for Valentine. Hope this spurs Buddy to a title.

Valentine missed some games this year too. Buddy was the best player in the best conference playing every team that was geared to stop him twice.

Horrible slight

Yep, partial season for Valentine screws this thing up, imo.

Did Tinsley win it in 2001?

Jay Wright at Villanova, Chris Beard at Little Rock (now UNLV) w 30 wins, or Dana Altman at Oregon would have been better choices for CoY.

Pure politics kept Buddy Hield from the PoY honor and EVERONE knows it, even Valentine.

When was the last time the AP got something right???

I'm thinking that giving it to Self is even a bigger screw job.

They vote on these things WAY TOO EARLY.

Self wasn't even the Big12 COY. Tubby was.

Unbelievable screw job. I guess being on a 2 seed and getting beat by a 15 seed carries a lot more weight than carrying your team through the season and into the Final Four. One more reason to really be irritated with college BB.

Lon Krueger deserved COY before Self. And Buddy for sure over DV. BOTH got jobbed.

I'm guessing Self was named due to Conference title and consecutive conference titles.

That is just a amazing. Buddy's ability to hit big shots and pile up points is unparalleled. As Al Pacino said in Sent of a Woman "What a crock of sh#t"

The votes were submitted before the tournament start. Media votes not as dense in OK vs b10 footprint.

I know it's a college award and doesn't have anything to do with moving forward, but only a couple of AP POY winners since 2000 have gone on to really star in the NBA. KD, Anthony Davis (kind of just getting started) and to a lesser extent, Shane Battier.

It's silly to have the vote for these things several weeks ago, and then hold it to now. It is a regular season award, mostly. But the timing, for me anyway, always gets things messed up somewhat. And like a lot of awards, it is somewhat of a popularity contest. Which is also to mean, where in the country the votes are coming from. (Hint of sarcasm for us in fly-over country).

Hield should still win the Wooden Award and several other versions of POY. And he can have the last laugh winning MOP of the Final 4.

You're all right, Cyclone_81. Stop by anytime. As for the comments about Hield vs. Valentine, sadly, your fan base seemed a little more in touch with reality than ours. OU fans who are Buddy Hield fans are pretty sick to their stomachs reading some of the comments on our version of that thread. Thanks for setting the record straight...glad one of our fan bases got it right .

Haha thanks clone. I was hoping for a 3 of 4 big 12 final four. Like you said there's always a turd or 2 in a fan base and nobody is turd free. If ya know any clones going to the game, and they hope OU wins, tell them not to hold back and cheer as loud as they can. We will take all the fans we can get.

Thanks again.

The worst experience I've had as a visiting fan (well, not counting the 2004 Sugar bowl, which is obvious) was 2009 in Lincoln.

I went to Lincoln in 2005 i think. When AD came back from his ankle injury.

The fans were weird. The older generation were good people. But the current students were complete asshats.

Are we really arguing about what the majority of isu fans are rooting for?

A more accurate assessment would be maybe 200 would not cheer for OU out of the 14K but you think whatever you want. I'm done trying to stick up for our fans or your team. It's sad that ISU gave up baseball, by the way.
