Guys, I'd love to hear any ideas to get students to show up for Baylor

Even if they don't like OU they should want to see Baylor. Baylor has a once in your lifetime team this year. Perrry Jones III is a very good player. He is worth the admission. Additionally, they get to mock Scott Drew and yell Hey Ref You Suck.

You have to get the fraternities involved more, IMO. And I know Kruger tried. If you can talk to the presidents of various frats they can easily make it a required event for Pledges and NI's as part of their initiation. We had required events all the time.

As for the rest of the fraternities, maybe you could speak with IFC regarding the frats that are on probation. I know we used to be on probation all the time. Maybe they could do something where attendance of a school activity by a percentage of your fraternity (i.e. a basketball game) can be part of an early parole package to get them off probation quicker by showing school spirit and crap.

Just a thought.

Once in a lifetime team?

I don't know what's changed in 35 years, when I was "that age" (freshman year). Maybe one reason we didn't mind going to the LNC for games was because it was then a brand-new arena. But there was also only one way in and out of there until '78 (Jenkins).

Back in the late 70's, the students were the only constant when it came to attendance. Didn't the students get royally shafted with the implementation of the "donor program?" I was living out of state at the time it was announced.

I'm not sure that any student who has to be enticed to attend a game with free beer and foot rubs is really going to bring much to the table, enthusiasm and atmosphere-wise.

Yes, Baylor has never been this good before in my lifetime and I doubt they will be again. Very few teams win 17 games to start a season. Programs like Baylor virtually never do it. I seriuosly doubt Baylor will do it again in my lifetime. I am not saying Baylor is the best team in my lifetime. They are far from it but they are a good team and well worth the price of admission and time spent seeing the game. I am goign to go to watch them play Texas when they come to Austin. I will go to a few games this year, including OU.

I think they need to give the students better seats. When I was in school the students got about 25% of the stadium, in general terms it was the opposite side from the teams Mid Court to halfway under the basket. It probably wasn't truly 25% but it was large and included a lot of really good seats. Now they seem to have the students under the baskets. I might prefer to watch on TV then sit in those seats.

disagree if the product is exciting

disagree if the product is exciting

If the product's exciting, they won't have to be enticed. It's not some exotic, unfamiliar sport we're selling here; it's basketball.

Might a few students come to a game and be pleasantly surprised at how much fun they have? Sure, a few. But most of them already have a pretty good idea what the experience of attending a game is like.

And so again I say, if they have to be enticed to attend, they won't bring much to the arena other than a butt to put in a seat.

Here are the 4 keys to getting goods crowds into LNC for basketball.
1. Wait till after football season
2. Win
3. Win big
4. Win big consistantly

Ah the Kelvin Sampson and Billy Tubbs philosophy

baylor will be very very good again next season

They lose Perry Jones (NBA), Anthony Jones and Quincy Acey. I don't think they will be nearly as good next year. They do have some good young players but Jones is a big time player.

Acey will be their biggest loss.

Cyclone Alley has a points system that they installed at the beginning of this season. They have it set up as 1 point for mens' games, 2 points for womens' games, 2 for going to game watches, and 4 for roadtrips. Oklahoma probably couldn't do something like this for the current season, but would definitely be a good way to raise student attendance. ISU Mens and Womens' hoops are seeing record student attendance numbers this year... and that is the sole reason.

Don't know about sole reason (your record helps quite a bit too) but that is a contributor.
