Hannes Polla has committed to OU

Why is that? Why then is Texas able to? They are not near blue blood status. We have equal if not better tradition than they do. We complain about attendance, they are no better. What gives? I'm not disagreeing with you I just don't understand it.

Because Texas is an elite academic university in an awesome city. Norman is not an elite school and is in a normal college town.

The recruits that Texas gets for basketball couldn't care less about UT's academic status. But, you could say Austin>Norman in alot of recruits' eyes.

Most academic rankings are based on factors -- graduate programs, research funding, etc. -- that will impact few if any undergrads, much less a school's D1 athletes. Yes, there's the occasional brainiac athlete who has it in mind to pursue an advanced degree or two, but usually, their playing days are over by then.

Because im sure Kevin Durant, Myles Turner, and Jarrett Allen care about the Acedemics

Some recruits do care about academics, but most probably don't. Everyone conveniently ignored the fact that Austin is a major cosmopolitan city that allows them to attract talent from all over the place. Point is, Texas has built in advantages that OU doesn't have, and unlike in football, we don't have blue blood tradition to get kids from elsewhere to come to flyover country.

Welcome Hannes to the Sooner Nation

Also Tyler Neal is a good example of hows kids can develop and contribute on a good team.

Crazy thing is i think he would have been a serious contributor if he had redshirted

Manek looks more 6'9" to me but it might be because of how skinny he was last season. Certainly a redshirt candidate next year for some weight room time.

Disagree with the Austin to Norman comparison. Yes, Austin is a big metro but Norman is a suburb of Oklahoma City which unlike Austin has a pro basketball team which is very supportive of the Sooners. As far as "blue bloods" having two National POYs within five years is impressive and should count in the recruiting column.

Austin is in Texas and Texas is full of dungsacks. So if they wish to go there more power to them.

Why do we even bother saying who has signed? you guys are just gonna rail on them, complain they dont have enough stars, make some mention of Capel or Calvin, and generally belittle the signing. It would be more constructive to just be surprised as they stepped on the floor for the first time come november.

+1

I like the addition of a big, space eating center in Polla. Not many programs have a true center. It's OK to have guys like Doolittle, Buford, Manek, and Freeman playing the 4.

P.S. I like Norman and its proximity to Bricktown. Just as much as Austin.
