Was bored and decided to see what I could find on this kid. Not expecting him to have an impact next year and a little curious why Lon offered him a scholarship. Then again I'm also no talent scout. He does set some bone crushing screens though.

Here's the full FIBA U18 Finland/Germany game. Polla is #15. First enters the game around the 7 minute mark in the first qtr.

FWIW I heard Lon say that Polla was a force down low on KREF

You're right about the screens. He also showed some decent footwork in a couple of low post plays I saw.

Like you, though, I didn't see anything to make me believe he'll be much of a factor next year. He's got the size to be a force down low at some point during his career. I just don't see that happening anytime soon. Hope I'm wrong!

All this depends on if he even makes it on campus..I think he could be use like OU football uses their fullbacks...Bang on people open up lanes for driving guards..ect

I suppose Lon figures we have a year with Lattin and 2 more with an improving McNease -- so we really won't need Polla to have an impact in year 1.

Is he a risk to not qualify?

The coaches are expecting contributions from Polla a lot Sooner than a year or two. I spoke to a real "insider" about Polla today at an big AAU tournament. He said they know they need a big, physical presence in the post and think he could help immediately. They loved his workout, size, and potential...... enough to quit recruiting 2 other smaller post players that they might of led on both. It would be nice to have someone strong enough to move opposing players off their post-up spot and block out on rebounds.

He was really high on Trae, McGusty, and Doolittle, and the future of the program.

This makes sense. We have to get tougher inside especially defensive rebounding

Thanks for the video. He looks to be 6' 9"- 10" with fairly long arms. He has slow feet and does not jump well. His hands are not too good also. I do not see much game contributions for ~ 2years. He will help in practice. McNease can teach him the jump hook

If that's the case I wonder if they redshirt someone. Maybe Manek?

His stats line is 10 pts and 10 boards per game. Plus 1.5 blocks. He avg 24 mins per game. I'll take that! I would say he reminds me of Renzi Stone a little in the first half against Germany. Germany looked to have a couple guys taller.

He already will be the best at blocking out on this team (kruger doesn't stress that enough imo). He found a body every play from the bit i watched. Looks like a plumlee brother imo. Less athletic but well see. I wasn't big on the pick up. But im feeling better after seeing his frame

Anyone else use the voice from Maz in Star wars when you see his name? Haaaaans Pollla

think about this CJ cole had to play actual game min as the 3rd team center in big 12 games ..this year ...

even if that is all Polla does next season that is an upgrade

For what it's worth, the big he was going against for Germany (#55) is projected to go anywhere from 15th to 19th in this years NBA draft and is listed at 7'.

There is reason to think Lon knows what he is doing. I know less than Lon has forgotten but I can say Hannes doesn't start for his team.

Well, you look for good material and you build on it. Kinda like that Solomon kid. New OSU coach saw something there he could cobble something around and its' worked for them. Not a great player ... a big frame to throw something onto.

Polla's not the next coming of either Shaq or Kevin Durant. But, by that same token, coach envisions some role he would fill. Thats cool. I eagerly wait to see what will happen. It's kind of exciting!!

Funny You mention CJ. Polla actually reminds me of a taller CJ. Big Strong Kid, not overly athletic but more fundamental then most kids.

My takes from watching the Germany game are that Polla is strong and physical in the post. Again not overly athletic, doesn't jump well in traffic and doesn't dribble well. Doesn't appear to have the softest of hands. Will set crushing screens. Every defensive possession he fouled even though it wasn't called. This was the theme for players on both teams though which for me made It a little hard to watch at times.

He will definitely have an impact from day one by bringing a physicality to practice that we haven't had in a long time. If I had to set a goal for this kid, it would be to strive to be like Kevin Bookout. Positioning and fundamentals I believe will be Pollas keys to success.
