Have delusions of grandeur always impacted NCAA sports this much?

AGH...How could I forget Corey Brewer and Willie Warren.

Tiny Gallon was also drafted by the Bucks.

I'm not really an NBA fan either except during playoffs. I just like to see more OU players make it in the NBA to help the program have a better image. It's not a big deal at the end of the day, Look at the 02 team, not a single NBA player and they were a very good team. I would rather OU win the big 12 and NC than to have 5 players from one team make the NBA, but the more players we get into the NBA the better prospects we can attract.

Yes, arguably the best team in college basketball. They should/could have won it all that year.

And, thebigabd, I wholeheartedly agree with your OP. To paraphrase the great Jerry Lee Lewis (as played by Dennis Quaid), "the NBA can kiss my a$$."

Actually, I'm more impressed by the fact we've had 11 NBA players who have played at least 8 years in the League during the last 47 years (I can cherry-pick timeframes, too)...and in 7 years Buddy will make it 12.

Willie Warren played 134 minutes in his NBA career, in a total of 21 games.

Taylor Griffin played a total 32 minutes in his NBA career, in a total of 8 games.

Come on, man.

so what josh huestis in a month will be a 2 year nba player .. with 2 years of pay checks ..

he has played 62 min in 2 years .... guess what he is a NBA PLAYER ....

Exactly.

At some point, they didn't do enough to really come up in this conversation. Those two didn't do enough.

I wonder how many millions of basketball players would give an eyetooth to have experienced their NBA minutes.

So --- how many minutes is enough to warrant the bigabd/wtsooner stamp of approval?

The concept was OU sent "so and so" to the NBA. That implies they had a role on the team, for more than a couple of minutes, etc.

Since 1995, OU has produced 3 NBA players. There is a difference between producing NBA players and producing someone who briefly played in the NBA.

Are you trying, with a straight face, to tell me Taylor Griffin is an NBA player? Was ever an NBA player? Had a career in the NBA? Played basketball at the NBA level for a living?

Come on, this is ridiculous. You guys are smart people. I feel like I am debating with politicians here.

Your molding the facts to fit your argument. Fact is they were all selected in the NBA draft by NBA teams and played NBA minutes. The argument should be since 1995 OU has produced only 3 successful NBA players.

But at what point is it on the player? It's not OU's fault players haven't been successfull in the NBA. I'd argure that OU got players drafted that might otherwise have not been drafted from another university.

I already explained that. Guys capable of making a living playing at the NBA level. That takes more than 30 minutes. There isn't a specific number of minutes, but OU has produced 3 guys since 1995 capable of making a living playing NBA basketball.

OU has produced 3 guys since 1995 capable of making a living playing NBA basketball.

And OU has produced 12 guys since 1970 capable of making a living playing NBA basketball - more than most non blue-bloods. I'm assuming you consider anyone playing 8+ years in the NBA as "making a living". I think our two-deep beats the Indiana Hoosiers NBA two-deep in a simulated game. Isiah Thomas can't play by himself.

That's not the point. The point was fans are constantly talking about if so and so player will play in the NBA. They need to realize that 3 OU players have since 1995, our greatest All-Americans, and some of our greatest All-Conference or All-American players still don't make it.

3 guys in the last 22 years, 12 guys in the last 47 years, whatever... It's exceptionally rare.

Those guys got to the NBA though... Idc how many minutes they have or haven't played. It's the sooners job to get as many of these kids a shot as possible at the next level. It's not on OU to make sure they stick. That's on the player, God given physical ability, situation etc

Who coached Jimmy Butler in college? Is Marquette the reason he became elite??
