How many Big 12 wins does Capel need to save his job?

Or will he be back next year even if he goes 0-16?

I think he needs 4-5 to save his job... I don't think you can win 0-3 games in conference and keep it after last season.

It also will depend on if they are competitive... If they are getting run out of the gym all the time the pressure will grow very quickly.

I don't think his job will be in jeopardy even if we don't win another game, even though he probably should. I think next year will have to be a tournament year or he gets fired though.

The box score showed the attendance last night at 3,311. From the webcast it looked more like 311. Joe C cannot be happy.

I think he needs to win at least 2 conference games, but I feel what I bolded will almost be more important than wins.

His job is not in jeopardy.

Serious question Boca, If we go 0-16, which i don't think will happen, are you ok with Capel keeping his job and his 1.5 mil a year salary?

Im not trying to fight with you I just really want to know if that is acceptable.

I'm not sure if we pay a buy out for him even if he goes 0fer

If I am the AD, 3-4 wins or show signs of competiveness.

However, I think he is back regardless of what happens.

Is the athletic department in such dire financial straights that we would be forced to keep a coach that goes 0-16 simply because we can't afford to pay the buyout? If so, I am concerned.

We could dip into the Fiesta bowl pot

I'm not Joe C. but if it were me and I had to pay him either way, I would buy him out get someone new in, but i'm also not the AD of one of the top athletic departments in the Nation

If we go 0-16 then this season would be the equivalent of OU football dropping off a 2-10 season (or worse). Do you think that would be tolerated? Hail no, the coach would be fired. It wouldn't matter how much the buyout was, the fans would burn down Boren's house if he was not fired.

Honestly I'm not sure Stoops would be fired if we went 2-10 in football. But he has built up a degree of goodwill that Capel hasn't, the two tournament seasons notwithstanding. If we went 0-16 and lost in the first round of the Big 12 tournament, I don't see how Joe C could justify Capel returning.

I don't think it will happen, though. We should win a couple at least. I can't believe it has come to the point where we are even discussing the possibility of going winless.

If you don't think it will happen why are you speculating over the consequences?

This exercise is a waste of time. We have some glaring weaknesses that no amount of coaching can overcome. We have a nice solid base to build around. Capel is a proven coach who at a very young age has run into some adversity. He will plug to gaps and take us on another run just like he did when he took over a decimated team 5 years ago.

I think he returns no matter what. I think Joe C made the decision to give him two more years after last season. If not, I think Joe C. made a big mistake and should have just fired him last season. What is the real difference between 0-16, 2-14 and 4-12 (all three suck). If Capel wins more than 4 games, he should be retained because he will have done a good job given the losses OU had after last season. (That does not mean I think he did a good job to get in this position). Obviously I don't know but that is just my opinion.

Don't think he needs 4-5 to absolutely keep his job.

But I do agree that it will probably depend on the level of competitiveness.

Its a precarious situation with a lot of variables. But my gut tells me he will be back, unless they have the ultimate abject record of 0-16 (which I doubt happens, even with this team).
