The real problem is that the current state of the program (low level of talent and potential NCAA sanctions) mean that we are going to have to pay a premium. I don't know how to quantify exactly, but a guy that is worth $2m is not going to come here for $2m. A guy that is worth $1.5m-$1.7m (like Buzz and Pastner) are going to need close to $2m to get them to come here.

How many of these posts are we going to have to read? ANY good candidate to OU (if they are already getting paid in the 1-1.5 mil range, like most name coaches are getting) will probably have to be offered in the 2 mil range.

If we don't want to pay 2 mil we are going to have to get someone from a mid-major that is making less than 1 mil per year.....and MOST of you won't be happy WHOEVER we hire....let alone some mid-major that you consider a 'lesser' candidate.

We could probably get Terry Evans for $500k..........maybe less......and that would make most of you unhappy.

I'm at the point I think we should hire Kruger or Stallings and be done with it. Both are established coaches who would clean-up this mess and get us on solid footing to make a bigger hire when they retired.

That is an incorrect way at looking at it. The buyout is a "sunk" cost.

OU is not a hard place to win at when you have the right coach with the right system and recruiting philosophy. Capel was not that guy but there are a lot of guys out there that could be for less than Buzz will command

None of that is at issue. This isn't about what could happen. This is about who OU can attract in the current state of the program. I think people are unrealistic, if they think that OU can bring in a high quality coach, without overpaying him.

I think we can bring in a quality coach for a lot less than 2.5 mil a year. 70% of that is 1.75 mil a year
