We are going to suck now and forever. Kids never get better, adversity never teaches anything etc. Awesome hoops board, but even the slightest bit of optimism is met with some tired arguments. Hope I'm right and the pessimists are wrong, but in any event, worn down on being a "pumper".

I just go by MsProuds sig line. The pessimist may eventually prove to be right, but the optimist is going to have alot better time along the way. Plus, I'm going to believe in my Sooners no matter what anyone says, so I wouldn't let it get to you. Everybody is frustrated right now, the season we had is what it is, but, I dunno, I think we'll be better next season. JMO.

Dude, you can't expect this board to be full of people that are optimistic during a season when we were picked third in the Big 12 with sweet 16 expectations and we lost 9 straight to end the year and finished 10th in the Big 12 with no postseason.

When that happens, whether its football or basketball, there are going to be a lot of unhappy people. I agree, this board hasn't been nearly as fun as the past couple of seasons but some of it is to be expected.

I was probably considered a sunshine pumper last year when people were coming on this board nit-picking and complaining about the "problems" that team had. But in my mind, last year was a time to celebrate. It's not very often that a team wins 30 games. I loved every minute of it and couldn't imagine why others didn't.

But if people were going to complain last year, they sure as heck will this year. And I know I did my share. I just used this as a place to blow off steam after watching a frustrating game, and I don't think I was the only one.

Great post Capelfan; said it much better than I could.

We were all happy last year. It was a great year, no doubt. One of the 10 best in OU history (probably 6th or 7th).

However, when you have the 4th or 5th best talent in the conference and you finish 10th and lost convincingly to the 12th place team and struggled to beat the 11th place team at home, you have problems.

I don't know what the problems are. I can see they don't play defense, so that to me is a problem. However, Tubbs early teams didn't play defense and they won a bunch of games. Also it seems to me like they have no discipline, but I don't know that for a fact.

From my vantage point it has to be coaching. Either that or it's the recruiting and evaluation (which I think is a problem considering all the players that have left). Regardless, both are led by the head coach, so he will always get the blame.

Its years like these that separates the true OU fans from the bandwagon fans! I will stick by my Sooners through and through. That doesn't mean I accept losing but I am definitely not gong to give up on my alma mater because of a losing season. Had I done that I wouldn't have gotten to enjoy the turnaround in OU football and the NC in 2000.

You will see several posters disappear now but when the team starts winning again, and trust me they will, back those posters will come.

So?

He acts surprised that people are negative after the worst season since 1960. On top of that, he lets what other people post affect him. If he wants to be positive, nobody is stopping in. If people want to be negative, nobody is stopping them either.

Good luck finding a group of people who get together and have the same opinion on everything. Meanwhile, I will be living here in reality.

Thank you. It's hard to be positive when their isn't anything to be positive about. Thank goodness the mods on this board aren't nazi's like old weather dude's used to be and allow both positive and negative comments.

This is a great comment. Yesterday morning I was trying to come up with a positive to this season and this era of OU basketball. The only one I could realistically consider is the fact some of the lesser fans who became OU basketball fans with the success of the recent decades may stop purchasing season tickets which will allow newer more passionate fans to step up. This is what happened in the 90's with the football tickets, and even though our football fanbase is anything but rabid (a lot of fans still sit on their hands), it is much more active than it was 25 years ago when Barry's teams were lighting it up.

That's called the OSU scout board. Anything that differs gets banned.

Don't give up man. This was the worst season in 30 years and this is to be expected. People will be jumping off the bridge for a while, but it will lighten up.

And this is coming from someone who I guess you could label pessimist right now (not the fire capel type, but the give Capel one more year type). I'm just not the kind of pessimist who makes 50 posts a day about with the same opinion in every thread. I can agree that those types get annoying, so just ignore them and keep doing your thing.

But if you have something positive to say, then go for it. Throw it out there and don't worry about the reactions. Just get it off your chest. I don't think I've ever seen an argument on this board where two posters at odds end up agreeing. lol. So just get your stuff out there and don't worry about the hate in return.

I respect a "sunshine pumper" who sticks around through the tough times trying to think positively a lot more than those who are running away and hiding.

Who are the pessimists that think OU will never be better? I have been critical of Capel this season but I personally think OU will never be this bad again.

He's probably talking about me. I don't think Capel can get it turned around. Too many red flags, IMO, and to have a season like this in year 4 of your tenure, when you have better talent than half the teams in this league tells me he can't get it done.

I do think OU will be back at some point, as I don't think OU will "never be better". I just don't think it will be markedly better under this coach. I can see next year as a 15-14 or 16-14 type year with a 7-9, maybe 8-8 record with a lot of blowout losses and some of the same problems we saw this year.

As I've said a million times, I hope I'm wrong and I'm rooting for Capel to figure it out. I like him as a person and hope he succeeds, but the red flags in year 4 are very glaring, IMO.

I don't see how anyone can be happy. I mean Dave Sittler reported that Joe C's face looked kind of upset.

Bad season, you bet it was. Can Capel turn it around, you bet he can. I'll bet we hit the dance next season, in fact when the line in Vegas is out on the odds, I will be dropping a grand on OU. That's how sure I am.

That's a great point that I never thought of. You get an influence of youth into the games who are more apt to stand, make noise, etc with the student section. You mentioned the football fanbase and I still go back to the OU-Tech game 2 years ago and the "Jump Around" the whole crowd participated in! That was the most electric game I had ever witnessed!
