Woodard--Heild--Cousins--Thomas--Spangler? What does this mean for Buford?

He'll practice hard, gain strength, learn the system, give everything he has on the court and become a star!

I'm guessing Buford will get his minutes between the 3 and 4, depending if they need 3 bigs or not. I think it hurts Bennett's minutes more than Buford's. They can rest Spangler more, too.

Spangler will probably play mostly at the 4 with Thomas moving to center. Of course, this is all contingent on Thomas getting his waiver approved (I think it's 75% possible).

Assuming Thomas gets his waiver...... It's not really important who starts. It's more a question of who is in the 8-9 man rotation. Obviously Buddy, Woodard, Cousins, Spangler, and Thomas are in it. Booker and Walker will be the guards off the bench. I'm guessing Buford and Bennett will be included, too. Injuries could also be a factor.

75%??? I'd say its a lot lower!

Buford, Lattin, and Booker off the bench... I am just drooling at the possibilities.

Will this allow Buford to develop more as a 3/4 combo or still have him in the Cam Clark role? If Thomas is immediately eligible then I believe this allows them to allow him to focus more on his perimeter skills than initially believed.

What does Thomas have going for him to get a waiver to play this next season?

They will apply to the NCAA for immediate eligibility because the new U of H coach is an acknowledged NCAA repeat violator, and Thomas has a moral conflict with playing for a twice-convicted cheater.

The NCAA granted 63% of the waiver requests last year for immediate eligibility. One of them was U of H transfer Joseph Young who transferred to Oregon. His waiver was granted because U of H reassigned his father to another job within the U of H athletic department that his father didn't want. "According to NCAA data from July 2012 to June 2013, 39 of the 62 undergraduate men's basketball players who applied for waivers received them."

It sounds like its a long shot. And I might be the only one, but I don't want him to play next year. I want him to be on the following years team. Add him to a veteran group and we could go the distance.

At this point, I don't see any way that isn't the starting lineup.

The only thing it means for Buford is that he will get his minutes off the bench, instead of starting at the 4. He also might get more minutes at the 3 this year, given the signing of Thomas, and our failed attempts at landing guys like Cunningham and Allen. Landing Thomas probably hurts Bennett and McNeace more than anybody.

It was stated in another thread that he announced his intention to transfer before Sampson was hired. Is that not true?

Spangler plays less minutes. High energy for shorter bursts to keep him stronger for the end of the year.

Maybe, but I don't think so. I went and googled the timeline. Kelvin was officially announced as the new coach on April 2nd. The earliest I saw anything on Thomas and House transferring was April 10th. They were released and allowed to transfer to any school outside of Texas not on the U of H schedule on April 18th.

I didn't spend much time researching, but that's what I think. The rumor that Kelvin would be hired at U of H was out there for over a week before the announcement, so it didn't surprise anyone.
