I really wanna praise Coach Capel

Should be an exciting year just to watch the new guys compete for spots and get to see the team grow.

I had a dream...

Cade Davis spent the entire summer with Ray Allen and Reggie Miller and found that consistent shooting stroke.

Tyler Neal was the second coming of Gordon Hayward.

CJ Washington was Taj Gray but with the work ethic that made him unstoppable

Abdi Ahmed shot the ball like Dirk Nowitzki.

Fitz lost a bit of weight and was a powerful force.

Pledger will shot 90% from behind the arc.

Cameron Clark turned into James Anderson.

TJ Taylor turned into Terrell Everett but could score at will.

but then again, this was a dream.

If that dream comes true, how about dreaming that I won the lottery. ;)

I often dream about a scenario when it's late in the season and we go to visit the aggies at Gallagher-Iba. We are floating around the middle of the Big 12 standings while OSU is on an absolute tear. None of the experts pick us to win this one. The game is relatively competitive through the first half, but in the second half, we have an absolute spark-plug off the bench------Tyler Neal. Young Neal has not played much during the regular season but has proven himself to Coach Capel in practice so he earns some PT. The OSU players have little to no idea who he is so they slack off on him on defense.

And then the rain comes.

Neal starts to bury threes left and right. Cade Davis and Steven Pledger get in on the act too. The Sooners go on a miraculous 18-0 run to silence the crowd. The Sooners hold on for the victory and stun the cowboys-a la the last game in old GIA. As Neal walks to the tunnel after the game, the aggies are heckling him left and right. He tugs on the front of his jersey, kisses the Oklahoma, and gives a sly wink to the Cowboy faithful.

This is a dream, but man I hope it happens one day.

Regarding ESPN's recruiting rankings...

Last year MU signed two players they ranked an 89.

One was Michael Dixon. Dixon averaged 7.5 points per game, had a 1.72/1 assist/turnover ratio and shot 35.5% from three/47% from the field in under 17 minutes per game. He had a hell of a freshman season for a guy playing behind two seniors.

The other was Tyler Stone. Stone played in just 12 games, averaging 3.6 minutes, 1.8 points, and 0.8 rebounds. He left after one year and signed with Southeast Missouri State, a low major.

I'd ignore ESPN's ratings for any recruit who isn't among the elites (and when they're up there, you can still ignore ESPN's rankings... because you already know all you need to).

I figured we'd be scanning intermurals for warm bodies.

Not only did coach fill spots, but he actually got a few who could (optimistically) be rather decent.

While the jury is obviously still out on them, his recruiting efforts leave me with hope that was rather lacking just a few weeks ago.

good job coach. nice damage control.

Capel is a stout recruiter and we've seen the talent he has brought in to OU. What we haven't seen is consistent winning under his watch.

I hope that aspect changes for OUr sake!!!

I think it will if he brings in an assistant who can teach the team how to play defense. Some have been critical of the offense Capel runs, but I'm not one of them. OU's offense accomplishes what it is designed to do. Get good shots. The rest is up to the players.

On the other hand, I have yet to see much evidence that anyone on OU's coaching staff the past three seasons knew how to teach kids to play defense. I realize that's not easy when you have too many players who believe defense should be an afterthought. But when those open shots the offense is producing aren't falling, good defense can still win games.
