That is my complaint for the game and the only one. Looked like we kinda petered out in the second half. Making lazy passes and the such. I wishe we had someway to sub our kids out. Cade and company can't go all game long 100%. Very good win though. Good job team.

We have no one we could really put in there. The 6 we played are our best players and give us the best chance to win.

So when Capel subs too much people criticize and when he doesn't sub at all he gets criticized. The life of a coach.

Capel played seven today. Newell logged 3 minutes, C. J. played 8.

I agree, though, we're going to need more able bodies down the stretch. The only chance we've got of playing in the post season is to pretty much win out in the regular season or win the conference tournament. It's virtually an impossibility to do that with five players getting the bulk of the minutes.

my bad, i missed newells minutes on espns box score.

CJ was like instant defense/rebounding. If he's not going to play more than 8 minutes, then I wish Neal would get a shot to help on the boards. I guess Newell has to spell Blair for a few minutes, but I hate when he just comes right in an turns the ball over.

I agree, I wish we subbed more so that our starters wouldnt be gassed at the end of the game and the end of each season.

I don't like that we basically played 6 guys today. I liked the lineup we had with Washington and Fitz for a few minutes. We need to do that type of lineup more often with our zone defense So we can get a few more rebounds with a bit more size. Zone defenses are hard enough to get rebounds as they are.

Who said he subs too much? That'd be a weird statement to make.

In the second half, we started out with lots of energy, but we fizzled around the 10 minute mark, because we had not subbed once. C.J. came in sporadically through the last 10 minutes for different players, but Neal never saw the floor today and Newell got maybe 2 minutes total all game.

It's just hard to get a grip as to what he's trying to do as far as subbing goes. We all know that Neal and Newell have holes in their game, but we need them to at least give the starting five a blow once or twice a half. These bench guys can't understand their roles if they don't see the floor.

And we can't have our starters all playing 37 minutes and not expect them to be dead by the end of conference.

With that said, today was a well played and well coached game. He switched the defenses well and called timeouts when they were needed. My only complaints are the odd subbing patterns and continued lazy passes on inbounds plays. Still, I enjoyed the win today :)

CJ is at least as good if not better than Fitz on defense and on the boards. He's just not much of a threat to score when OU is on offense. That may change in time, because he appears to be gaining confidence with every outing.

Capel's substitution patterns are just bizarre sometimes he doesn't sub at all, sometimes he subs too much, sometimes he makes bad substitution choices and keeps those guys on the floor.

I'd say he's better at help defense than Fitz, but definitely not away from the paint. CJ does move his feet well and gets beat off the dribble a lot.

As far as help defense and rebounding, I think he's as good as anyone we have on the team.

Posters have been saying that all year.
Nm what I said then.

I'll just say that Capel has been much less willing to go to the bench sine the A&M game. It's a good thing in certain players' cituations and less so with Neal in particular.

I really don't care who he subs in. I just want our final 5 in the game to be able to go full speed. If you watch them they have dead legs. And, the only reason Newell came in was because of 2 turnovers in a row by Blair. Just so weird.

:jcapel is trying to win games? Maybe, now think about this, this team only has 4 or 5 players with talent to play at this level? Just maybe, and think the 4 or 5 players maybe best served as roll players on this level. Maybe, just maybe? I think the effort was solid, from the coaching to the players. Nice win on Saturday!

The rotation is shortened during conference play...happens to every team in the nation. If Capel can get a few extra minutes for Blair or Fitz at some point he should, but beside that no change is needed.

At this point a tired starting five is probably better than having some of our bench players logging more minutes, just a harsh truth. If Capel would use a timeout or two at opportune times he would be fine, I'm sorry, but with as many stoppages as there are with TV timeouts no way these guys should be dead tired. Eight TV timeouts per game, and five (three full, two 20's) for each team. That's ridiculous, especially given we are not an up-tempo team.

Can OU really afford to not have Davis on the floor? Obviously Fitzgerald must be on the floor. I just don't see a lot of opportunities for this team to substitute players. It just isn't deep enough.

CJ deserves to play more, he is good at rebounding. I don't think OU needs to play 9 guys but subbing more around timeouts to make sure OU is fresh is key.

I think where the problem lies is who he subs in for. Capel can't afford to sit Fitz on the bench very long, and subbing anyone else out takes away offensive production. Maybe Capel could squeeze a little more time out of CJ, but not much more I don't think.

Capel's substitution patterns are fine. If those on our bench are not good enough at this time to contribute and help us win, then they need to remain on the bench. To this point, no one other than CJ and maybe Newell have shown they deserve more minutes.
