I wonder why CJ didn't get more recruiting interest?

Was it because he was at Connors State? His size? Athletic ability? Or was he just one of those under-recruited gems? The guy had 26 rebounds in one freaking game, averaged 13 on the year which is unreal at 6'7''. He also blocked 2 shots a game and scored nearly 20 per game!

I don't understand why OU was his only high-major offer.... At the very least you would think schools like Texas Tech, Nebraska, Iowa State, etc from the Big 12 would be recruiting a guy like this.

CJ Washington
Earned first-team National Junior College Athletic Association honors as a sophomore after averaging 19.3 points, a school-record 13.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game ... Also named the NJCAA Region II Player of the Year and Region II Tournament MVP ... Led Connors State to a 30-4 record and to national junior college tournament ... Recorded 25 double-doubles in his 32 games (14 consecutively at one point) ... Ranked fifth in the country in rebounding and 32nd in scoring ... Broke the single-game school rebounding record with 26 in Region II Tournament semifinals against Murray State College.

I just listened to his video blog on soonersports.com and I am excited to see him play. He sounds like he has good bb I.Q.. He and his father studied how the ball comes off the rim (the angle it takes) and this is how he positions himself for rebounding. Also, he stated that on most recent grade card he made a 4.0. Seems like a nice, articulate young man.

Most high D-1 schools don't recruit jucos.

Who says OU was his only recruiting interest? Another negative assumption made by the fake OU fan.

Q: Who else recruited you out of junior college?
A: "Oral Roberts and Murray State were the main two, and an assistant coach from Wright State talked to me after the (junior college) national tournament. If I didn't end up at OU, I probably would have gone to Oral Roberts.

No programs like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky etc don't recruit jucos. Most high D1 schools do recruit jucos. Elite schools don't usually recruit JUCOs. Although I think Kentucky has one this year.

You don't recruit a guy like CJ, because there are better prospects out there. When you don't get those guys, a guy like CJ is a very good backup option. Why would a school like OU go out and get a fall signing on CJ when they can wait till the end and see how things play out and still get CJ.

Cj also wanted to stay close to home. I think he was pretty open about that.

kansas signed two a couple years ago (Little and Appleton).

Also, it's not a juco vs. whatever argument, because JP Olukemi, Goff, and Poland got alot of interest and early offers from OU and others. It's probably more of a CJ and his size issue.

A dame I like to call destiny...he's obviously gonna be a Big 12 stud, as everyone now knows. But because everyone was terrified of competing with Capel this summer, seeing how hot our name was on the streetz, they just ceded the next two years of his legendary career to us. Well except for those bold Oral Roberts, who took a shot even though they knew it was pointless.

Not sure why he didn't get more interest, but I'm really glad that he is going to be a Sooner.

LOL: CJ was a good as signed by ORU until Jeff Capel, in his frenzied efforts to sign some "character guys" in the wake of last season, made the late offer this past spring. Hard for a native Oklahoman to turn down the ol' Crimson & cream when an offer is made; otherwise CJ would be playing for the Golden Eagles this year. Hope he made the right choice - frankly, I think he's undersized for the Big XII, but he could have been a force at a mid-major like ORU.

My friends that have seen him play think he will give us exactly what Nate Carter gave us, i.e. a very good undersized post that will stand up fine against all but the really good really tall players.

I am really interested in seeing all the new kids and will just wait to form an opinion of them after watching them a little.

I have been told great things about Cam and good things about Taylor and so I have some expectations of them.

I have seen Neal play, and I was all for OU giving him a scholarship, but I don't think he will be ready this year. Don't know anything about Newell or Admad (s) or Thompson. Thompson sounds like a real interesting player.

It will be fun just checking out all the new guys. Here's hoping they put it together and win some games. I will be there to watch regardless.

Guys my size (6'6) that play the post dont get a whole lot of interest at a Major D1 school...

But i really respect the numbers he put up in the Bi-State...A guy named Selvy put up very similiar numbers and was the same size as CJ and turned out to be a very nice player for OU...both have very similiar skill sets from what i have been told...

I was using the literary device called sarcasm. I would say any hype before he competes against high major D1 post players is meaningless.

You are correct Daryan had very similar numbers, 25 points and 12 rebs a game.

Yes, and if iIRC Appleton was signed because of their misses and was promptly recruited over and was there only 1 year despite being a 4 star recruit. Little was the #1 Juco player in America and redshirted last year and will probably see limited action this year. Typically schools like UK or KU will only use a scholly on a juco to fill a gap on a miss or massive departures. They don't build a program or a class on them.

Ebi Ere
Jason Detrick
Ace Mcghee
Quannas White

All on the same team. If you get the best ones, and mix them with good high school talent, the formula works and you can have more consistent recruiting success with that formula at a school like OU.

OU can't recruit like Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, etc. You can try, and you will strike out and end up with some B talent. That has happened pretty much every season since Capel got here.
