If capel is gone, im not sure if we want him gone but if he is, then we need a new coach obviously. We will need a coach with integrity, teaches defense, able to recruit solid players, and has experience. You want me to tell you who that is. his name is avery johnson. He is defensive minded and he wont allow any wrongdoing in our program. it may take a few years for him to rebuild us but ill take that bc he will get us good players with good character and he wont deal with any crap. also he led the mavs who could never get to the promise land to the nba championship. he could use that as a recruiting tool. imo he could be like a calmer bob knight that would prolly stay at ou for a long time..

I've thought about Avery Johnson as well. I don't think that would be a bad hire at all. Also, what about that guy that use to coach the Nets? I believe he came up under Bob Knight.

I like Capel & do not want him to leave. But Billy G. is really not the answer,as an OU fan please set your sights higher!!Go Sooners!!!!!!

Yes why would we want a coach that hasbproven he can win with little talent.

What's wrong with the Fire?

We're inept on offense right now. We move the ball nicely and control the possession. Can't put it in the net. Frankly, I think McBride doesn't fit this team. He gives us nothing but a potential header on a corner kick. He cannot run at defenders, which is what we need.

Avery Johnson does have a bit of an Oklahoma connection. He played a year at Cameron, out of New Mexico JC, but left to go Southern University for his senior season.

I've said elsewhere, that if OU does wind up in the market for a coach, with some school and NBA ties, then go get Terry Stotts.

Avery Johnson's next job is going to be an NBA head coaching gig. It's not like he can't get another NBA job; he's just waiting for the right opportunity. Despite his conflicts with the Mavs, they still won a ton of games during his tenure. He didn't mesh well with a hands-on owner like Cuban. His name is already being connected to several NBA jobs, including his hometown Hornets.
