I'm beginning to think we need to

Show me the quote whereby Speed said she eliminated OU when AO didn't get to play in the UCLA game. No BS, just the quote.

Next time I see NS, I will see if she will give a direct quote just for you. She will probably laugh and give that DOH look!:ez-roll:

There are too many that are naive to what really happens OR just don't wanna' believe that it's really a very cut throat business with money, jobs and scholarships on the line. Not as bad as the men's program...yet.

Thank you, that's what I thought. You're making up stuff again to try to paint Sherri in the worst light possible.

If I'm not mistaken we had a pretty good point guard during that time....oh yeah, I think she was from California and if memory serves me correctly she was known as DRob. If I would have been Speed I probably wouldn't have come to OU either.

Norm, actually I don't expect anything different from you. It's all good! But one thing I DON'T need to do is make up anything for this forum. Trust me.

Your OPINION about NS avoiding OU because of Drob...where is YOUR proof? You're making up stuff again! :) I personally believe both had alot to do with her decision. But the common denominator amongst most top 20 players that have CONSIDERED OU...that's all they've done. Considered. Most never took an official visit and when they did, there was never much more talk about OU. So, call me what you like...paint it any way you like. The proof is in the pudding. Where are the top 20 players or any players from CA? Furthermore, SC's staff did not even recruit DRob. In an interview, SC states that AP told her about DRob when asked about needing a fast guard. SC and her staff should have already known about DRob. Other top programs were recruiting her. She was about to commit to Cal when SC broke speeding records to do a home visit and offer an official visit and scholarship.

PS...IMO...SC has painted her own pictures well enough as the primary person responsible for the program. She does not need my help to indicate that their recruiting playmakers, game changers... is MIA.

Unless you can come up with a name of a recruit that turned OU down because AO didn't play in the UCLA game (which you have yet to do when challenged), then you are making up a false allegation. I'll give you another chance if you care to try again.

All of that balony amounts to absolutely nothing! DRob came to OU, was coached by Sherri Coale, and became one of the top point guards in the country. End of story.

This is comical. First you rant and rave about how good AP and AO were yet neither of them were program changers. Nice players, not program changers. By your standards, Sherri should have bypassed them and signed others who could have been program changers.

Here's an idea -- everyone put SB on Ignore. Then you won't even be tempted to reply and those of us who already have him/her there won't have to cull through the quotes to see if there's anything we want/need to know that pertains to something that doesn't include: Coach Coale's abject failure, the continuing lack of good assistant coaches, how much any player that's ever come to OU from Cali hates it (wonder why DRob and her family were back this season for Danielle to be "Door Opener" for a game?), and any other drivel of that sort.

Good idea. I admit I am somewhat critical of Sherri when it comes to recruiting but I certainly recognize that only a handful of coaches in the country have been to 3 final fours in the last few years. Most have never sniffed a final four.

While I agree with this there is something that bothers me about an OU team that returns 3 starters with 3 years of starting experience and another with 2 plus getting back 2 more players who have started in their career's and a top 20 player, and is not the overwhelming favorite to win the conference. With that kind of experience returning I think in years past we would be the hands down pick. Yet even people on this board do not believe we will be. IMHO the reason we are not is watching other teams with very quick, athletic players that we do not seem to possess. Perhaps we will see that in the new recruits? I think we will/should have a very, very good team next year, however we still have not IMHO recruited as well as some of our conference foes, and it has absolutely nothing to do with AP,CP,and AO.

Recruiting is THE major problem in this program. There are certainly other things, but not at that level. No program is problem free.

Sherri and the assistants have done a tremendous job coaching a depleted team this year.

If we would have had a full roster or a couple of those injured players escape the hurt bug this year we would have done better.

However, I do think programs and coaches develop a rep with recruits that gets around through the AAU circuit and other ways. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's bad. Sometimes it's in between.

For a program that has been to three final fours in the last 13 years and that has been in the elite of WBB and won an amazing number of Big 12 titles. We should be doing better recruiting consistently.

Absolutely agree. If we want to compete with the best we have to recruit more athletic players at all positions.

Except for the point that the program would more than likely still be in the AP top 10 if they had done the recruiting necessary to have players such as AP, CP and AO...and SD, DROB, AT, EH, PW, LR, CW, NS, WH...and others that bring about a well rounded team with individuals that all bring their attributes/strengths to the game...athleticism, speed, leadership, strength, rebounding, perimeter shooting, post moves, in your face defense, etc. You cannot get there (NC or consistent success...FF) without players that have a winning mentality, have experienced what it takes to win the top trophy from previous levels of play (high school, club), very competitive and never give up. And of course...they all need to bring some sense (not that they have to be perfect...they are basically teenagers when they arrive) of moral fortitude and a desire to excel academically, otherwise you end up with drama/distractions. Has that been done? No. And they did not build on opportunities when the harvest was ripe.

PS...and when you have that well-balanced team of a winning caliber, you cannot afford to get out coached in the big games

And those handful have won at least ONCE!

That's all I'm saying...adding some specific recruiting mistakes that the program has made that affects consistent future recruiting.

Jerry, I believe the team definitely needs athletic players, but they also need other things that are missing right now. I've seen a teams 12 deep with athleticism and not won the conference. Next year's team does not have an ounce of playing experience in a FF. It's going to take some serious rebuilding and time (at least 3 more years with #1 recruiting classes) to get to the FF again. Do they have any player's that have won an AAU national or high school championship? I'll have to read up on the high school profiles to see if there is ANY HOPE! They have to start OVER with something to build on.

This extensive discourse seems to me to have missed two points.
First, CP's problem was/is not that she carries too much weight; it is that she is too short and can't shoot from beyond 5 feet.
Second, OU's recruiting is shaped by the character of the coach and the culture she creates. Some players like it, others don't. SC is more like Bill Fennelly in this way. Both are committed to a particular culture and style of play and recruit appropriate players to that culture. Neither is likely to win a national championship as a result.

we can not get the top players from our own state. Lakota Beatty from Anadarko is this years Gatorade Player of the Year. She is going to Osux. Jessica Washington from Jenks is going to North Carolina. Last years winner is Courtney Walker A&M). Ashley won in 2011. I do not know her college, if any. Richa Jackson won the Gatorade in 2010. She went to Duke. Kevi Luper, 2009 winner is at ORU and is one of the nations top scorers. Alyssia Brewer won in 2008. She went to Tennessee and is now starting at UCLA. Angel Goodrich won in 2007. She is at Kansas. That is as far back as the Oklahoman showed winners yesterday. Something is not right when we can not get the top players from Oklahoma. I left Ashley Clarks last name off from 2011. WE either can not get them or we are not trying to get them.

You're correct on the second point. Your first point is true if you never had the opportunity to see CP play prior to OU. She had a perimeter shooting game prior to her OU days on her high school team...she and AP were the press breakers and had the green light to shoot from anywhere in the gym. Both were notorious for hitting the three at the buzzer to put an exclamation mark behind whatever the team had already done. They also played on a club team their last few years of club ball...starting five were all McD AA's...D. Hampton, E. Arriaran, A. Gray-Lawson, AP and CP. All of them had the green light to do whatever needed to be done to win the game...and they never lost. Her diverse skills were never developed or permitted at OU such as they were with Adams at TAM and CP@TENN. I remember her naturally squaring up to shoot a perimeter/tres' at OU then she'd stop and go to the low post where she was told to go.

I might be able to find AP & CP video footage of a high school game against top talent (Hampton & Gray-Lawson, and a few schools from Texas, Arkansas and Washington) that flew into CA to play. Their high school team was ranked 1 or 2 in the country their senior year and they were the ONLY 2 that played in college from the class. You can't accomplish that without skill diversity.

OU needs coaches that can recruit top 10 players and then continue to develop diversified skill sets.

With that said, alone...Houston...Norman, we've got a problem! It can't be a PROBLEM with ALL of those players. Maybe just maybe...maybe, maybe, it's OU's coaching staff. How do you MISS on all of them? Were they all lesbian and you don't want them on the team? That can't be it. Were they all lacking "family like qualities"? That can't be it. Were they all poor students? That can't be it. Were they all juvenile delinquents? That can't be it.

So if it's not the coaching staff...please tell me where the recruiting problem lies? I'll wait!

Most likely the closest answer you will get.
