I'm gonna say it again - Manek needs to toughen up

2 games ago some folks saying 1st team all big 12. Now he sucks again.

Jesus.

Dude is guarding 5’s in the post.

Chill out.

I dont think he sucks at all. Far from it. But he needs to develop some mental discipline. Maybe Blake can take him to Cali and get him on Jerry Rice's little beach program. He'll be zipped and ripped.

I could teach him some mantras but that would just make him peaceful and happy. He needs some mean.

Blake isn’t tough. I love him but not tough.

Freak athlete. Can’t compare the 2, I’m sorry.

I don’t question the wisdom, who would you put on him? Kur did ok but he hurts OU offensively. They doubled him like everyone does & Garrett went crazy.

Would you rather Manek guard Garret or another perimeter player?

Doesn’t matter, as long as Manek doesn’t have to guard Udoka. I said Kur could be a possibility. ABD said Victor might be a candidate. That would give us ten fouls to use on Azulbuike. Ride him like he’s a half broke pony every time he gets the ball in close. He’s not a good foul shooter.

Anything is better than allowing him to make layups or dunks and beat up one of our best players.

I agree Ada, I don't necessarily agree with the strategy of having Brady guard the big EVERY game. He is a stretch 4 playing a big 5 on the block. Banging around like that every time down the floor has to be a grind and take away from his ability on the offensive end.

I am not sure why Doo doesn't draw the assignment in a game like today.

Doo is way better at guarding the perimeter, easy decision to make Manek guard post.

I didnt say that Blake was tough. I said Blake might take him to Cali for JERRY RICE's beach program. And don't even try to tell me Jerry Rice wasn't tough. He had pro athletes from 3 different sports doing his routines for physical and mental toughness. I only mentioned Blake because I was aware he had done things with our players in the past when he played for LA.

How does it not matter? Who are you going to bench? Kur still gets bullied because of the weight & is way worse offensively.

You can’t foul somebody the whole game and not penalize the team.

Exactly the dilemma I pointed out before the season started. You HAVE to play our two best players even tho they play the same position and are not really suited to be on the floor together. Neither Doo or Manek can defend true 5's.

Somewhere Ryan Minor is reading this post laughing and saying “I remember when I guarded Big Country and gave him all he wanted!!”

But 5s can’t guard them.

But 5s can’t guard them.

They don't have to. When they're on the bench for 16 minutes in foul trouble.
Manek had 7p/5rebs. Asbigasabuick had 15 and 17.
Who would you rather have on your team?

Different era & different game.

Not really, in terms of this conversation.

You don't have to be as big as you opponent to play good defense on him. Manek isn't a good defender, on anybody. So yeah, it stands out a little more against somebody like this. Manek is to blame, but Kruger is more to blame. Goes back to recruiting a complete roster.

Is there a Danny Fortson clone out there in this class?

Nonsense. Manek has done a very good job, for the most part, on defense this season. Kruger's mentioned it often.

Unlike you, I don't just make stuff up. Not as bad as I thought, but I wouldn't call him good.

Go ahead and filter that by defensive rating. Then compare that to the non-OU players.

And Kruger isn't going to criticize a kid as fragile as Manek. Heck, Kruger doesn't really criticize much of anybody.

Certainly asking a lot of him to try to defend Azubuike. But I don’t think people are questioning one poor game. Something was bothering him - either physically or emotionally.

If you sort by forwards in the Big 12, I believe they have Manek 39th.

Sorted by forwards Manek is 15th defensively, not 39th. Doolittle is 12th.

FWIW to the board, Manek is 2nd offensively among forwards.

You're right. I must not have refreshed the page after that sort.

Still wouldn't consider that very good. Trying to figure out what Fox considers a forward. They have have two qualifying "centers" in the Big 12, both with better ratings than Manek. So essentially Manek is 17th in the league in terms of the 4/5 positions. There are 20 that start in the Big 12. Take from that from what you will.
