I think Meyer has actually grown and may be closer to 6'9". He's a great athlete that is still learning. I'd bet he turns out to be really good. You can tell he has been well coached.

Long reminds me of Bryatt Vann... kinda looks like a football player playing basketball.

Shake reminds me a lot of Hield. Fairly similar type of offensive game.

I guess in saying that I see him as more of a SG, maybe a combo guard at the next level. I don't see a PG. But, I guess he's like 15 or 16 so that could change and his handles could develop.

The one thing Oklahoma has not had is an organization that starts working with these kids at an early age, teaching fundamentals, man-to-man defense, ball handling, interior moves and mid-range shots. The only organization in state at this time only supports the high school age kids and not the younger kids. the big AAU organizations around the country like Indiana Elite (Indiana), We All Can Go (Memphis), Mac Irvin Fire (Chicago), Team Izod (New Jersey) and Team Ramey (KC) are examples of AAU programs that support these kids starting in the 7th grade and develop and prepare these kids to compete at the next levels. Oklahoma's 2016 & 17 classes have good talent, the 2018 class has really good "potential" players. time will tell.

Good points. It is hard to watch players that cant hit a 10 ft jumper. The problem is that we have so much turn over in schools . Coaches come out of college and only stay at a school for a couple of years and go to higher paying jobs. You have to come into a school and be on the same page with the 5th and 6th grade and middle school coaches to teach fundamentals.....

Meyer was a beast from the reports. Douglass is somewhat down though. Not quite the top 6 ranking they have yet..

There are organizations teaching this from younger ages up in Tulsa. They just don't always travel with the best players.

Basketball will start at a younger age more as it becomes more popular with the Thunder now. Notice all but one of those cities you named has an NBA organization in it. The other used to and is known for basketball.

The biggest reason kids do not have great fundamentals now is they play more than they practice. It is great they are playing more than they used to, however at a young age practice is very important.

That is just my opinion though and could be way off.

Playmakr, I disagree that Shake's handles are not there for a PG. He understands change of pace and doesn't have trouble with people pressuring him. PCW tried to last year and didn't give him any trouble.
He has grown a bunch in the last year or so. He won't be explosive, but he will be a much better athlete by the end of his senior year and going forward. He has a build much like Durant, long and lean. So the more he works on strength and explosion, he will make athletic jumps each year.

I think Shake will play PG at OU. That is what LK would love to have. A lineup of guys all close to the same size. Switch everything on defense and cause match up issues on offense.

A1 only supports the two high school teams, the younger teams you see wearing the A1 uniforms are name only no financial support or organizational support. GV allows certain individuals to use the name, its also why you don't see a A1 team at every age group.

Basketball has become more popular sense the Thunder was formed, but Oklahoma has had players throughout the years. In 1982 OKla had a senior class of Wayman Tisdale, Mark Price, Steve Hale & Mayberry. from there we would see individuals that would come out the years following. For the first time there is multiple D1 players in each of the upcoming classes 2 players mentioned in this thread have already been offered by OU and another is about to be offered (2016). 2017 will be lead by Tre Young out of Norman 6'1" SG, then several kids out of the Tulsa area. 2018 holds a lot of potential players, training, guidance and exposure will be important to developing these kids talent.

Well unless the kid gets hurt, the leader of the 2017 class is Ethan Chagois from Union.

The rest of what you say about A1 makes sense.

I do think part of the issue with this is also the number of teams. For many years there was one main team in Tulsa, and 1 in OKC. When you have those guys concentrated on one team, they have better players and will be seen more in the summer.

Tulsa hasn't had the same amount of basketball talent it had in the late 80's and early 90's. I think a lot of that has to do with the success of football in the Tulsa area. When the best basketball players were in Tulsa, the OKC schools were winning football. Now it has switched and many of the top players are in OKC.

Just look at Union. The two best players would have been D1 kids in basketball if that is what they chose to focus on. However being in the gym for 3 months a year and 9 months in football or baseball/football didn't develop those skills.

I haven't spoken directly to Shake in a year or so. Great kid and I know he was a Texas fan growing up. He has family from Texas.

I did hear through his coach last year that he was definitely warming up to OU and that OU had a real shot with him.

I do know that Kruger, Crutchfield and another coach were at an Owasso practice the first day they were allowed to be out.

Keep a look out for Ft.cobb. They have a freshman PG who is the coaches son who is an exellent player. They have a sopmore SG who can shoot great and rebound and play D great he is also already 6foot4.

Wayman, etc., were early 80s.

Mayberry was late 80s... IIRC, he graduated in either 1988 or 1989.

He played on those really good early 90s Arkansas teams.
