I copied this from HoopScoop. Apparently, it was posted by the parent of an OSU player:

As we travel from arena to arena watching games, visiting player's family in ALL arena's are allowed to gather in the tunnel or in a section just by the tunnel and wait for our kids to come out of the locker room to say hello and chat for a few minutes. According to the security at the Erwin Center, Coach Aston's rule for visiting players families is that if they want to visit with thier kids, they can do it outside at the bus. It does not matter if it is raining, sleeting, etc, if the family wants to talk to the visiting players, it will be done outside HER arena.

Now that is not being very hospitible and a lack of respect to those that travel to see thier kids play. Anyone have any insight on why Coach Aston has this rule other than to show she is in charge and has the power to be make any rule she wants. Has there been an incident that brought on this rule? I am sure the Texas player parents would not like to stand out in the wind and possible bad weather that the season brings when they travel as visitors at other arena's.

Yeah, saw that as well. Must have made them angry as I've never seen that person post before. I've never heard that about visiting players families before so I don't know if that is accepted or not. If it's at the coaches discretion, I'd think Aston would have more to worry about this year than if visiting families could meet with the players or not.

If things keep going for Texas they way they have so far, perhaps someone else will be in charge at the Erwin Center during women's basketball games next year.

Not allowing the visiting players families to hang around to see their kids does seem a little childish.

Read on the whorn board that GiGi was in attendance at the game yesterday. Cokie Reed supposedly had the flu but there are also rumors that's she's quit the team. Ronisha Major was sitting in the stands with her boyfriend. Aston added a volleyball player to their roster as well so not quite sure what's going on there. Jody is making a more visable appearance with the program, I guess, since Aston was her assistant for years. Their crowds are terrible and are looking at having a losing season for the first time ever, I think. Not all coaches at mid-major schools can handle the pressure of being head coach at a major program and maybe Aston will turn out to be one of those. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Texas' volleyball player is a 6-4 freshman who was also a top 100 high school basketball recruit.

No. 78 Sara Hattis to choose between two sports, schools
Sara Hattis of Santa Fe, N.M., is down to two schools, but also is going to make a choice between two sports, according to her father, Bill.

One of only four ranked posts left on the board, the 6-foot-4 Hattis is down to Purdue for basketball and Texas for volleyball, her father said in an email.

Hattis is ranked No. 78 in the 2012 class for basketball by ESPN HoopGurlz and No. 6 senior volleyball prospect by prepvolleyball.com. She hopes to make her choice before the end of the early signing period, Nov. 9-16, her father said.

Aston should have never been hired at Texas. I felt is was a poor move all along. She's got some of the best talent in the conference, but they don't seemed motivated enough down the stretch of games to fight for the win. At this pace, she won't be there much longer than a season or two.

I wonder what OU's policy is re: families visiting with players in the tunnel? In my view, this is Div 1 basketball, not high school. If Mommie and Daddy want to see Muffie they can see her out at the bus. I don't see Mommie and Daddy in the tunnel to see Ralphie at Div 1 football games. What a zoo that would be.

A new post on Hoopscoop confirms that this is NOT Coach Aston's policy. It is a Frank Erwin Center policy, applies to all sports (including men's basketball), and has been in place for several years.

Most places allow friends, and fans, to hang around after the game to see their teams. According to Holly Rowe's twitter ,Allen Fieldhouse was absolute chaos after the Baylor game with all the fans hanging around to see Griner. GIA allows fans to hang around and visit their team inside before they have to leave.

I wonder if there was some kind of incident in the past that prompted this policy. I guess we should just be glad that Iowa State doesn't have a policy like this. I can't imagine waiting outside in an Iowa winter to talk to someone.

I've seen some OSU parents go in the tunnel at the LNC. Not sure of the actual policy though?

The only times I've stayed very long after games is on Senior Night. I've seen parents and players meet in the stands while the festivities were going on.

If you'll notice, there's a line of security personnel at the entrance to the tunnel. Unless you have a ticket that guarantees you floor access (i.e., to courtside seats along the west and southwest sides), an elevator pass (issued by the Athletic Department), or an access pass (that hangs around the neck), I'm not sure you'll stand a good chance of getting into the tunnel. Whether or not the Women's Basketball Office or Athletic Department issues access passes to parents of the visiting team, I have no idea.

I think that is the father of Liz Donohoe that made the original post on Hoopscoop. Since she is qa sophomore, I would think he has been to a lot of arenas and this is probably the first time this has happened.

I don't see the big deal. If you want to have a conversation with a player, use a cell phone and talk all you want.

I seem to recall seeing visiting players come back out of the locker room and go over to the stands behind the visitor's bench to greet parents, etc.
