It was a different Texas team. They still have trouble from three. But, they do shoot longer jumpers. ISU scored the last five points of the game.

UT had a four point lead with about 55 seconds to play, and simply gave the game away. First, they have a silly foul against ISU when a player approaches the right side of the lane from the charity stripe. She is bumped and scores one from the line.

Then UT squanders the clock and puts up a three pointer as the shot clock was winding down.

Then (still with a 3 point lead) ISU is left alone to penetrate the right side of the lane for an uncontested layup. On the ensuing inbounds play the player throws the entry pass well over her intended recipient around midcourt, turnover to ISU. ISU blows that possession when once again they leave the right side of the lane completely unguarded. The ISU player puts up a layup attempt from zero feet which doesn't even hit the rim.

So after all that, they still manage to give the ball back to ISU without scoring, and ISU - shocker! - scores 2 from the charity stripe to win.

This UT squad has much work to do. It's hard to fathom that they were the preseason favorites.

How far down the polls will Texas fall with a 3-4 conference record?

Supposedly, the saving grace for Texas was that Atkins and Taylor would return. They did. Atkins scored 8, and Taylor scored 2. Lang, Jones, and Imani Stafford were effective at scoring. But, Texas, for the second time against Iowa State, had McCarty try a three-pointer at the buzzer. She hit neither. The Texas guards shot 13 of 38 with only Atkins and Rodrigo being pretty good. Davenport didn't score.

It's hard to fathom they were ranked 3rd as well. Stanford is not the Stanford of the past 5 or 6 years although they are decent team. Tennessee is not that good for having all the All-Americans on their roster. Texas has a lot of growing as a team even though they have some talent. Hopefully, they don't find themselves this week!
