or is it just a matter of matchups because

I think it's matchups. SA is a tough matchup for Memphis. OKC really struggles with Memphis. It will be interesting to see if the Clippers recover to make it interesting. I think they are pretenders.

I think a lot depends also on health. We'll see if Manu can stay healthy and Zach Randolph. Take either of those guys away and you have completely different teams.

Pretty remarkable what the Spurs do year in and year out. Just when you think they will finally breakdown due to the overall age of the team, they prove to be just as tough as ever to beat. Oh, and I hate the Spurs. It drives me nuts how well Pop has them playing every year.

They just run Pop's system so well. Starters or bench they don't miss a beat.

Wasn't able to watch the Grizz and Spurs last Saturday, but I heard it was a fantastic game. The Grizzlies were up by double digits throughout the 3rd quarter, but just couldn't execute down the stretch. Considering they were coming off a back-to-back without its best perimeter defender, and the Spurs with plenty of rest following that controversial Miami game, I wasn't too disappointed with the outcome. Like Bill Simmons said a few days ago, this would be a great 2nd round matchup.

I agree with grace that it all comes down to health. I think the jury's still out on LAC being "pretenders" though. As a Grizzlies fan, they scare the hell out of me.

I wasn't calling the Clips contenders. I was just commenting that they seem to have SA's number. I think they're 2-0 over the Spurs so far this season and that first game wasn't even close. They made SA look old and ugly.

I just think they are regressing to the mean, the Clippers that is. I think the Clippers match up perfectly with the Grizzlies and terribly with the Spurs and not well with the Thunder.

Can't say I disagree.

well, if the Clips don't match up well with SA they sure seem to overcome it and kick the Spurs azz

Other than when they were swept in the playoffs by them. :) They have improved for sure. But they've also lost to the Cavs and Hornets. I don't trust them yet.

I am not talking about last year Grace, I am talking about THIS season. I don't think that the Clips are world-beaters yet either ... which kinda solidifies the point about them absolutely trouncing SA.

I get what you're saying but those games really don't matter much. Playing 2 times in their first 10 games is pretty much meaningless. Unless we add the same weight to their losses. Heck, Miami lost to Washington last night!! :)

At this point SA is playing much better and that's without Ginobili. I think LA is a really nice team but SA playing at full strength gives them a lot of difficulty, imo.
