Not just this year but in the next 2 to 3 that oklahoma may have an "in" on? Like I remember with Julius, hiss aau coach played at oklahoma which got us in the top 3. Is there somebody like that in the next few classes maybe? Maybe even a potential 5 star guy from oklahoma in the future? Just curious!

Don't need a 5* guy, just need to grab some of our top 4* targets.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'd much rather have guys like Shake/Trier/Grandstaff coming in next year than James and Odomes.

We just need to start getting our realistic top targets. That would be a big help. And Pritchard is a start to that.

:facepalm guys have not even played yet and some poster thinks they are not good enough

Fact: LK offered quite a few guards, and was turned down, before offering these two.

I didn't say they sucked, or weren't good enough (what does that even mean?). I said we were after better players that we failed to get.

I'll be like a little kid on Christmas morning who can't wait to open his presents. I'm anxious to see Buford, Odomes, Manyang, James, and McNeace play. I hope we can get some reports this summer on how they are all looking in the pickup games.

I'm happy with the players we have.

We can't possibly know where James and Odomes stood in Kruger and his staff's estimation going into the recruiting process. They may have been well down on Kruger's wish list, but it's also possible they were something closer to a 1b to Shake/Trier/Grandstaff's 1a. The dropoff may not be, in Kruger's judgement, nearly as great as it is in yours.

What's more, the annals of college sports are rife with examples of supposedly lesser high school players outperforming more highly rated players at the collegiate level. That's the thing about recruiting ratings; they can measure what a player has done so far, but they can only guess about what he'll achieve going forward. There are so many factors that can impact a player's progress -- which coach he chooses to play for being perhaps primary among them.

It's a waste of time and energy to continue fretting over players who chose to go elsewhere. We've got talented guys coming in, and we've got the coaches to help them reach their full potential. I can't wait.

Me, too. Guys like Shake, Trier and Grandstaff haven't entered my mind for several months until I read this thread. That's like saying, I would have married a beauty queen if she hadn't turned me down for another guy.

I'm perfectly happy with the players we signed, and the woman I married!

What he said

Also, the recruiting rankings for hoops are rarely really redone after the AAU season is finished.
Top 20 player matchup of basketball academies might force some revision at the very top.
But that's it.
So Odomes great senior year not really weighed or evaluated.
James leg injury - same thing.

Trier is on a different level than all of those guys, if we got him that would be just as big a game changer than if Buddy stays. imo

I don't think Trier ever seriously considered OU did he? I know he transferred to Findlay Prep to finish out HS, but he always had his eye on the big time.

That's not true. 247 and Rivals come out with end of senior year class re-rankings. Of course there isn't ever any huge leaps except for a small few because they pretty much know what they think of players the summer prior to their senior year.

Odomes had a good senior year but he pretty much performed like any top 200 player would perform. His team was pretty mediocre and he was their go-to guy. He put up big stats but nothing crazy for a top 200 HS talent.

Yeah OU was in his top 10 but I don't think he ever gave them serious consideration.

Terrance Ferguson is a kid that has ties to Oklahoma. I think OU is in there along with Arkansas.

You're right. Odomes HS was a smaller school in class 6A in Texas, and they were 20-14 this past year. 6A basketball in Texas is pretty tough basketball although they're located near Killeen/Fort Hood and don't play in DFW or Houston.

Because he didn't play in a big media location, I think he flew under the radar. JMHO.

OKhoops,
You proved my point.
The rankings are locked down after AAU season ends. They make minor changes if any based on player's senior seasons.
Re rankings where nothing changes are not re rankings. Again, they make slight changes based on the matchups of the basketball academies results. That's it.
And AAU basketball is killing the skill level of incoming college basketball players, just ask any head coach.

It's like ranking football players solely on a Rivals combine or Nike the Opening event. Which Rivals/247 sometimes do, and inevitable leads to 4 or 5 star player busts.

I think Coach Kruger and his staff are getting the best basketball players they can get. I am hopeful that some continuing success, including more Top-3 finishes in the conference and more Sweet-16 runs will enable OU to close the deal on higher level recruits. It cannot hurt that the program is now being selected to appear in the ESPN Big Monday games, when this was not the case just two years ago. If big time games against the likes of Wisconsin are also on tap, then that is another plus.

I am hopeful that Payton Pritchard can help recruit another player in his class as he makes the rounds in the AAU circuit this summer. No angle or opportunity to "get in" with a high level recruit can be ignored. Sometimes friendship can make the difference. Who knows, we fans might get a "Christmas present" with recruiting news this summer.

In the meantime, OU players are making good grades, staying out of trouble, representing the university as fine young men, and they are winning. They also continue to work to get better. While we fans want higher levels of success, the players want it even more.

I think skyvue says it best.

I can't wait either.

I don't recall where I saw it, but I keep hearing rumors we are about to sign Wilt Chamberlain's great grandson.

Word seems to be the kid is 7' 6", weighs 260 lbs, can bench press 575 lbs, regularly runs the mile in under 3 minutes and 44 seconds, and has been timed in the 100 meters in 8.9 seconds (watch out Mr. Boldt).

In addition I understand the kid dunks by jumping up and standing ON the rim and just drops the ball through the hoop. Only problem is he occasionally gets his arm stuck over the top of the backboard or his foot caught in the net. That has caused him to start working on shooting threes. He has now hit 5,378 in a row - from midcourt.

If all is true, he may be able to lead us to our next championship.
