Posted that OU added a combo guard (I presume Penzo) while still looking to add size. I do not subscribe to his website.

I guess that puts to rest the idea that Sherri isn't trying to add size to the roster.

I'm always skeptical where Hale is involved but he does occasionally seem to have good information. Question is, When?

So Hale has a direct source on Sherri Coale's staff who feed him recruiting news off the record since the coaches cannot go on the record.
Over the years, I think his Sherri scoop is as or more accurate as anything he reports.
He doesn't always hit up that source for info. If enough people ask on his message
board he will make the time to hit the source for info.
I have no idea who it is.

He has a source on Bob's staff (strongly suspect who that person is) and someone on Kruger's staff (just like Sherri, no idea who it is)

It's the only way he could get some of the info that he has.
Soonerscoop has a staff contact for football as well. Again, it's the only way that they could know certain recruiting details. But it's all off the record.

I will say it appears Sherri is keeping her recruiting news even closer to the vest than usual.

Hale usually gets more info about upcoming stuff.

Happy Birthday James he's 56 years young today :woot

I'm just as curious as to how mystery 32 got the information on Penzo.

The basketball fans on OU Insider have been pestering Hale for weeks to get us any information on women's (and men's) basketball recruiting. He admits that his focus is on football because that is what pays the bills for the site. But, only after we asked about Penzo for a few days did he say that he would attempt to confirm this "officially." Four days later, he did confirm the commitment of Penzo.

He has also specified when some prospects will visit, but that is OUInsider information.

I have not yet seen the names of anyone that we have not mentioned on this board.

Since we tend to have phantom signings, like Penzo, I don't know that we have any idea who Sherri is recruiting other than the names that we already know and have discussed. Maybe we should start pestering mystery32.

sybarite,
You are right. So far mystery32 has scooped just about every other internet source.

I hope he has some names of girls visiting for TCU.

Mystery32 comes up with a lot of great information. This board is getting better all the time because so many of you are finding bits of information even during the off-season which makes it worthwhile to visit the board every day.

On the 18 Sept. SoonersWBB tweeted " Great Day to be a Sooner!!! #SunshineState. I am thinking thats when Penzo committed. I have a ?. If Penzo played in Fiba, how is she 2014?

They have a U19 group so I believe that is how she qualified. I assume that a girl of any age can play, as long as she is under 19.

She is not much of a scorer for high school. Doubt she was recruited by uconn, Baylor, Stanford ect, but hopefully she will do well.

That's it,we don't want anyone who isn't recruited by uconn, Baylor, and Stanford.

It was reported that she just moved to the
United States maybe 2 years ago. Last year was her
First year playing AAU Ball.

I doubt that Sherri is convinced that Penzo or Gibbs will ever be starters. Obviously, she needs depth and it is entirely possible both girls will see limited action but, if we have 3 or 4 injuries at the same time, she will still be able to practice and compete without pulling players from rowing or volleyball. From that standpoint, I understand her thinking. I don't think either player was recruited by major D-1 programs. Gibbs was going to Arkasas St until OU offered. I'm not sure which other teams may have offered Penzo. With all the guards we have and considering the likelyhood that Sherri can bring in top 50 guards without much problem, I would have preferred to see us use that ship for a high level post player but; hopefully, that will still happen. But, I also can understand Sherri never wants to go through another season shorthanded.

I wouldn't underrate Gibbs and Penzo. Penzo made the All-FIBA first team. Three others on the first team with her were Lauren Cox, Katie Samuelson, and Asia Durr. Which of those would you not want. She isn't just some hs guard from Florida. She was the leader of the Puerto Rico national team, said to be a magician with a ball in her hands. Meanwhile, she's only sixteen this year?

If Penzo is as good as Cox, Samuelson, Durr, etc, I would think she would have been recruited by all the majors. Don't get me wrong, I will love it if she is good enough to send Peyton, Carter, etc to the bench but I doubt that happens.

She is sixteen, from Puerto Rico. Are you sure they even know about her? Yet, the international whatever voted her on the same unit of five as these three and a center from Canada that everyone wants. So, she's only on that list as a fluke? She's there for a reason.

If you are looking for a can't miss recruit (like Kornet), you may well be disappointed in a lot of our recruits. I think Sherri is looking at several players who may have everything she is looking for, but may have one thing that says they won't make it, and will give them a chance to show they can play. Derica, Gileysa, Gabi, Gioya, T'Ona, LaNeisa, Peyton---I can see reasons they will all fail---or succeed. How much does each want it? How much can Sherri bring out? Sherri is a guard's coach. She knows what she wants.
