James Hale's starting 5 prediction

But, if he can do that. He will be able to coach up Arent alittle too.

Fair enough.

But Arent wasn't a #30 ranked HS player (Cam).
And he wasn't a top 50 ranked HS player (Osby and Fitz).

Those guys have more talent, and more D1 experience then Arent. They are also on campus and working out NOW. Arent won't get to campus until what, August, maybe?

Rankings out of HS? But Dorothy, we are not in Kansas anymore. Coming out of HS Arent was condidered by scouts to be nothing more than a pure project. He wasn't offered by anyone. He basically walked on to a Junior College. That was 3 yrs and almost 60 lbs ago and those same scouts now call him a decent prospect. I'm not expecting great things from the kid. Just acceptable defense, rebounds that bounce his way,and mayby 8 pts. That's good enough to free Fitz up to get his 14 or so from the #4. But, it is nice to have these dicussions with someone that has put some quality thought into their position.

Interesting. I wonder if he got some really good vibes regarding Arent from his sources.

He also said Capel would be retained. Hale really when you net it out knows nothing.

It is actually possible to play all three guys a lot. That is what I think will happen. If Osby gets 20 minutes at PF and 10 minutes at the 3, you can play Osby, Clark, Fitz and Arent for 30 minutes a game. (120 minutes for 3 positions). I will be shocked if it averages out to exactly 30 a game but having all four guys average between 34 and 26 a game is very possible and likely in my opinion.

If you get production as follows:

Clark 12 points, 4 boards a game (which is only slightly better than what he did as a freshman - he averaged 4.5 boards and 9.3 points on the season but I don't think adding 2.7 points a game is a huge stretch)
Osby 12 points, 6 boards (if he is as good as people say he needs to do this)
Fitzgerlad 14 points and 6 boards (only 1 board and 2 points more per game - if they guy gets to rest and does not have to worry about fouling out so much I think he will improve his stats)
Arent 8 points and 8 boards (Seems reasonable on thirty minutes for the biggest guy on the team, especially given the fact he shot above 30% from 3 point range in Juco - meaning he has reasonable range for a big guy)

You are getting 46 points and 24 boards from you 3, 4 and 5 position. That works and you should not have major foul trouble issues. If you do have foul trouble you have Washington, Neal and Honore to come off the bench.

How could anyone argue much with that?

Patillo and Selvy were both quite a bit smaller/quicker than Osby.

And both of those guys played the 4, primarily. Also, both had much better guard play at the 1/2 spots. That helps.

they are shorter than osby .. but i would not say quicker ...

and neither handle the ball or shoot as well as osby ...

osby is a guard/wing ..

How do you know this?

I think the most compelling thing about Osby is that his game is currently an absolute mystery to most if not all of the posters on the board. We've heard nothing but great things, and I'm not going to dismiss what you are saying, I am just curious as to what information you are forming your opinion on.

Washington averaged 19 a game at JUCO.

I hate when people say this... he played D-II juco. He didnt play in a good juco league. He was usually the biggest guy on the floor, which isnt the case if you play for some of the Texas, Florida, or Jayhawk Conference jucos.

You are out of your mind. Both of those guys were significantly quicker than Osby.

Not sure how you can say that without having seen Osby play. I have no idea who is quicker at this point as I haven't seen Osby play as an upperclassman...I have heard that he is in immaculate shape right now.

How do you know I haven't seen him play? How do you know that I don't know somebody that has seen him play?

Then there is the common sense answer of Selvy/Patillo being quick for their size. If Osby is bigger, he'd have to be an absolute FREAK to be quicker than either of them. Osby's biggest asset isn't his quickness. He isn't some freak athlete. Is he athletic for being 6'8? Sure. But so are a lot of players.

No one has seen Romero play in a real game in over a year...

I was just making the point that we don't really know how quick he is compared to the other two at this point. Not that it matters.

The only thing that I have heard from someone claiming first-hand knowledge was prepared to be surprised how big and quick the guy is, and that was posted on this board.

In the practice footage from last season, he was light years ahead of any other post we had athletically. FWIW, that is why I'm pretty sure that he is going to be playing the 4, because that is the group that he was practicing with. But who knows under a new regime.

So have you seen him play?

I've only seen him "play" once while at OU. Practice. And I've watched a good amount of video on him while at MSU. He moves good for his size, but he isn't as quick as Patillo/Selvy IMO. That is why I think he plays the 4. I don't think he is anywhere near mobile enough to play the 3 for extended minutes. Unless we play zone (defensively). But I don't like his offensive game as a 3 either. He is a 4 in the mold of Ace/Carter/Eduardo.

Eduardo may be the most underrated Sooner of all time. That guy brought it every single night.

And he was versatile. He could guard positions 3-5, rather easily, and he adapted his offense to suit his teammates. Loved that guy.
