The Mountaineers have already received a commitment from one JUCO player in forward Dominique Rutledge from Western Texas Community College, and Bob Huggins is after another big player in center Phillip Jurick from Chattanooga State Community College. The 6-foot-10 player originally signed and played his first year of collegiate ball at the University of Tennessee under head coach Bruce Pearl.

Jurick left the program because of his mother’s health and he wanted to be closer to home. He is originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee and went to East Ridge High School.
The native Tennessean is in his second season with the Tigers and redshirted in his only season at UT. He has two years of eligibility left and he has already gotten a few visits from WVU head coach Bob Huggins. The Mountaineer head coach even made a visit after WVU’s season-ending epic victory over Louisville.

“I talk to them about once a week,” said Jurick. “We talk about how I can fit in and how I’m a JUCO guy and how he’s always been a coach who recruits JUCO players and makes them successful.”
The Mountaineers have had their eye on Jurick for quite some time. West Virginia only has two experienced big men returning next season in Deniz Kilicli and Kevin Jones, but neither of them is as big as Jurick.

The 6-foot-10 prospect is receiving interest from almost every SEC school and major programs like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and WVU. He has already visited Cincinnati, Oklahoma and Southern Miss. Jurick says he plans on visiting WVU when his college season is over.
Jurick is familiar with the West Virginia program. WVU recruited him in high school before he signed with the Volunteers.

“It’s kind of weird,” states Jurick. “After all of this time we’re kind of back on the same page; I’m just a few years older.”
Jurick likes the physical style of play that Huggins uses and knows the track record he has of putting players in the NBA. That’s something Jurick would like to do in the future.

“It’s coach Huggins. Just the name alone speaks for itself. It obvious the success that he’s had and just playing in the Big East,” said Jurick. “That’s a hard conference to play in and have all of that success.”
Since Huggins has taken over the Mountaineers he has put three players in the NBA, has gone to the NCAA Tournament each year he has been the head coach and made one trip to the Final Four. Jurick knows if he comes to West Virginia he will see results and understands the kind of success players can have under Huggins.

“Just how he coaches and stuff like that I’m sure if I went there he would get the most out of me,” said Jurick. “It’s just my decision from there.”
