just for fun....predict next years starting 5

Some of the same people who are getting upset about someone saying Randle may not start, are some of the same posters who anointed Osby as the next coming of Ace McGee, and M'Baye as a one and done top 3 pick in the draft....

It's all based on potential, and you saying it's a penciled foregone conclusion shows you are probaby fairly young, with little sports/hoops experiences.

History is full of high potential H.S. superstars who didn't survive two months on a campus.

I don't know much about randle other than what rankings say, and the few posters here who actually have seen him play, and know how to evaluate talent. You act like Original Sooner said he wasn't GOOD ENOUGH to start. he never said that. He said it may be a situation where LK decides to bring him up slowly, or Randle doesn't pick things up as fast as he could/should. What if the kid comes in out of shape, or he deals with a nagging injury that slows his transition?????
There are a ton of reasons why the kid might not start day one, and many of them are always possible. To act like the poster is crazy for suggesting it, then continuing to evaluate his coaching ability when none of us know who he coaches, where he coaches, and what level he coaches, it screams of spoiled Sooner football fans who want to turn this board into OF, where all differing opinions receive an attack back, name calling, and eventual trips to message board thread hell.........

I have no problem with the disagreeing, and I have no problem with the debate, but the personal attacks on an unknown posters ability is juvenile at best, IMO.....

THE KID WOULD START FROM DAY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Kruger would not bring him off the bench...b/c Randle wouldn't come here to come off the bench to relieve M'Baye or Spangler or Bennett or whatever juco player who couldn't hold his jock strap.

If the Harrison Twins came here...They would start.

Were talking about the best power forward out of high school!!! And anyone that would bring him off the bench is a moron!

Well, Hield is arguably our 2nd best player and he didn't start for the first 12-13 games. I don't want anyone to confuse this sentence and think I'm trying to compare Hield to Randle, because I'm not.

However, I will also add Kruger is a far cry from Capel. He doesn't promise starting positions during recruiting and Randle will have to earn his starting spot instead of it being given to him. Giving out starting positions is a disaster waiting to happen, so for anyone to say "he will be penciled in as a starter the day he signs the LOI", is just plain stupid.

However, for certain posters that type of statement has become the norm for their posts...

Nothing wrong with tempering expectations for a potential recruit who has played no big league ball.

Now IF Randle is as good as most think he will be, then we will start from day one.

If he struggles with the transition like numerous others have, then LK will most likely bring him along a little slower, as most experienced coaches would.

I hope we get him, and I hope he instantly becomes the best in the Big 12, but history tells me to temper expectations.

Very good post. :clap

BOB,

Do you dream about Capel? A large percentage of your posts include a comment about Capel. Considering your apparent obsession , I would guess the answer to my question is "yes".

Did you mean to say nightmares? ;)

Everybody knows that there is a chance Randle could come to OU, and get injured, or simply not perform like every scout in the country expects him to perform. Yes, there is that chance.

But if he comes to OU, and performs at even 85% of what most people expect from him, he starts from day 1. Really shouldn't be any question about that.

day 1

Hornbeak
Hield
cousins
Mbaye
spangler

I think Woodard starts. I think Cousins plays backup everything and gets 20 minutes a game. But I say with very limited knowledge of Woodard and am basing my opinion on his alleged ability to defend, not turn the ball over and score more effectively than Cousins.

Regardless of everyone's varied expecations, does OU have a realistic shot with him?

Woodard can do those things. Hard nosed kid.

I want to know the same thing.

Also, has he visited?

Since this is not a dead period, is he being actively recruited until April 1st?

I don't see why we wouldn't have an outside shot.
We could easily make his top 3, 4 and then depending on what happens at Kansas and Kentucky...maybe, just maybe, he'll fall to us. Long shot, I know.

Dream, no; nightmares, yes (thank you ada!). :ez-laugh:

You don't have to promise Randle a starting spot...Hes already earned it for being better in high school than M'Baye and Spangler are 2 plus years removed.

The only way Randle doesn't start is if he's hurt.

You keep making absolute statements when you have no absolute evidence. You talked about him proving he is better than M'Baye and Spangler and he has proven that. Proven it against who????

According to many of the posters here, M'Baye was better than Osby, and about anyone you could name recently, based on practice reports. Has that translated???

It doesn't matter how much you and a few others TRY to sound like you are an expert with your absolutes, the truth remains none of you know how the kid or any kid will adapt/transition to the next level. PERIOD!!!!

Now do you want me to find a list of highly recruited, can't miss busts???

(1) Well I never once claimed M'Baye was better than Osby! Not Once!

(2) I want you to find 1 top 5 recruit out of high school that is a bust and/or did not start as a freshman(if he went to college). B/c Randle is a top 5 player out of high school.

I would love it to see the numbers of top 5 kids that didn't start. It has to be a fraction of a percent.

Charlie Villanueva didn't start his frosh year at UCONN. He came off the bench.

That's one and it took me 3 minutes to find it.

Yeah but he didn't have any eyebrows. I think it was only top 5 recruits able to produce facial hair.
