Video is different.

The one thing that frustrated me about the Mixon outrage was that people waited to be outraged until they saw the video. There was little outrage when it happened or when Amelia Molitor's story was told, but the video generated huge outrage. To me, the story wasn't any different pre-video-release than it was afterward. But video is different. If there was video of the KU dorms, everyone would be showing it or at least talking about it.

This is 100% correct. You hit the nail on the head.

Bragg is suspended indefinitely from the program but this is not related to the incident mentioned in the article. I got this from ESPN so, at the very least, they're talking a little about it now.

He's not a main cog so he's the sacrificial lamb basically. He's an easy target after the deal with his girlfriend.

Someone is guilty of supressing the story for a month. If it was the witnesses of whatever was seen they could be in for some unfomfortable questions.

people must stop assuming the negative in these things. the reasons for delay are obvious and well founded. 100 hounds from the national press wont be here within hours if joe shmoe is mistakenly named in some incident and then quickly retracted. they have time for damage control there. same situation with a jock and the damage is much more devastating. makes 100% sense to wait and make sure.

OK, I would like to retract this. Too much smoke at this point. Crazy.

I thought you were right in the beginning. But I don't see how KU or Self can escape all of this now that the national media is involved. It could get ugly in Larryville before long.

yeah ... they will freak out and question Bill Self's recruiting or say he lacks the ability to instill discipline. Which is dumb.

some kids are just going to get in trouble. it's a statistical inevitability. in OUR minds we like to group the ones that DO happen into a nice, orderly progression - like 1 every 6 years. But that's not what happens in numbers. you'll get like 4 all at once and then skip 20 years.

He should be judged on how he responds. Thats the measure. And for that they need to wait. It's not like his results are bad or anything.

I presume you mean Self here and I agree completely. No major athletic program will avoid these things, though KU basketball has for many years. He should be judged based on how he responds to these things, as any coach should.

Hasn't he already responded to some of it, and couldn't it fairly be argued that his response has been rather underwhelming?

And KU has had issues in the past that at any other school would have been bigger news. Like Notre Dame, KU tends to get an awfully easy break from the press and the NCAA.

well, it's an awfully easy thing to say "kick X out" but there is more to it than that. Self has made commitments to these kids and their parents/family. I dont like a coach who'd just immediately give up on a kid. Not condoning battery or anything but with those promises you want to give people every fair chance possible.

Self called the publicity surrounding the rape of a sixteen year old girl in the players' dorm a "distraction." I'm not sure what I expected him to say? Still, calling the rape of a minor a "distraction " came across as cold to me. I wonder what he would have said if that young girl was his daughter?

To be fair to Self, he was directly asked if it was a distraction and he said it was. He didn't open his statement with that.

The multiple print and broadcast coverage of the Self interview I found online did not contain the preliminary question you referenced, but I'll take your word for it. He did go on to talk about the seriousness of the allegations and how that was far more important than game planning for an opponent. Not that it matters, but I feel better about it now.

Ada I happened to see a retweet of his explanation, and in the tweet all it said was Self addressing question regarding allegations. I didn't specifically hear the question asked, but I can only presume it was in order for him to be discussing it. At any rate nothing more will come of it until after April is my guess.
