Karron Johnson to OSU....

Well, you could go look them all up on the various team sites and then come up with an average... that would take some time, though. :)

or just toss out your unsubstantiaed opinion like I did. I would bet a drink or two on Paige being above average, maybe even well above average. Lots of guys get almost no PT as freshman and many that do get minutes mostly screen, defend, rebound and get loose balls. Ryan Minor was one of the best four year players at OU and he did not have huge numbers as a freshman. He did a lot of little things but I don't think he scored a whole lot (but again I did not look that up, I am just going off my memory).

I think some people here are substantially underestimating the loss of James Anderson.

How so?

OSU is picked to finish 8th in the preseason conference poll. It looks like people are estimating that his loss will be significant.

That said -- while we will certainly not have any single player as good as James Anderson this year -- we will have most across-the-board talent and depth at every position since Ford arrived.

The question will be how well that talent and depth gels as a team and whether or not we can find a "go-to" guy for crunch time.

They're better than 8th. Somebody will develop into a go to guy. My guess will be Page for perimeter looks and Pilgrim in the post.

OSU wasn't supposed to survive the loss of Eaton either. Yet Ford managed to get those guys to play some pretty good basketball.

It will be interesting to see who starts at PG. My guess is early it will be Penn with Page at the 2.

Agreed... They are at least top 5.

I think that talk of OU fans saying Ok. State couldn't survive without Eaton is overblown by Ok. State fans (I could be wrong, I wasn't on OU Hoops until half a year ago, and don't recall that being the consensus vibe on OU Insider).

Eaton didn't make Anderson, Anderson was a stout go-to guy that would have flourished with whoever at the point. You add in OM, and I thought that was a solid nucleus to build around going into the season.

I think Anderson and OM are going to be harder to replace this season than Eaton and Harris, simply because there aren't the same high-quality players left over as opposed to when Anderson and OM returned last year. I think Ok. State will finish somewhere between 6-8 in the league.

The only reason you're agreeing is because they signed some Juco players. I only believe so because they have some continuity in the post and some at the guards.

OSUJeff,

I was talking about certain poster(s) on this board, not the 8th place projection.

They managed to survive because of James Anderson. He was a big time college basketball player.

No - I was asking where the sentiment was coming from that OSU would not miss Anderson. :)

Trust me... there was plenty of sentiment here about that. :)

One prevailing line of thought was that Eaton's ability to penetrate was what enabled Anderson, Page and others to score on that 2008-09 team. The thought was without a true point guard to run the offense and get inside the defense, that neither Anderson nor Page would be able to score.

Yeah, whoever were Anderson's detractors last year clearly had a biased view; he was a stand-out player his junior season, and not because of Eaton's ability to penetrate the lane and kick out.

Read the blurb at 10:35. Karron Johnson will not be signing in the spring, but is still committed to OSU. If it is a done deal, why not sign?

Well... like PokeJ and I said.... I'll believe he's going to OSU when he shows up on campus.

There have been far too many starts and stops with him to believe any kind of "commitment" until he's signed and on campus.

If the situation were flipped and he were committed to OU, I wouldn't want him. He has twice the baggage of TMG and Tiny. I'm not going to act like he isn't super talented. It may be a situation where he'll be the next Herb Pope or Butter Hobson. I wouldn't be suprised if Holder vetos the the whole deal. Doubt he's even qualified.

He's not qualified because he still has to finish the year at Midland. How many guys come out of juco that aren't qualified? I can't think of any instances off of the top of my head (not to say there aren't any.)

Hopefully he makes it in, but Nash is signed so everything after him is gravy.

With respect to Karron I think he dropped out of Midland and returned to Richmond in December. I can see no indication that he is going to return even to try to complete his academic requirements for OSU much less to rejoin the team. I strongly suspect we will see him in the NBA draft this year as he is now out of options. When you can't demonstrate that you can be part of a basketball team for a single season without being suspended or kicked out you have problems. I have tried to make this point to Karron, his mother, and his "mentor" and none of them wanted to hear it. I think they are all convinced that he will get drafted and make it in the NBA. He may have the athletic and basketball skills but I will be very surprised if he can accept discipline and direction and do what he needs to do to be a viable part of a team. I hope for success but am troubled by this long standing pattern of not fitting into a team environment. I think OSU fans should just cross Karron off their lists. Hope I am wrong.

I think most OSU fans did this a long time ago.
