Karron Johnson to OSU....

I think most OSU fans did this a long time ago.

Yes... this.

I crossed him off the list a while ago.

Even after he recommitted, as you can see from earlier in this thread, I still didn't expect him to show up.

Interesting, since he posted on his FB this morning that he was headed to class.

It really has nothing to do with how talented they both are. Has more to do with sulking if the ball doesn't come their way which leads to breakdowns on defense, etc... It just takes a few lack of hustle/effort plays per game from your stars before the lack of effort becomes contagious.

If guys have big-time talent and buy into the team concept, you have no issues. My point is that you usually only have room for one prima donna per team. If you have 2 or 3 it is a recipe for disaster. I'd rather try the experiment than not try it don't get me wrong. Talent usually prevails.

Ford will kick a kid off the team faster than the kid can say "but coach". As long as you have the discipline to bench, suspend and expell a kid from the program quickly, I see no reason not to take highly touted guys that may be gone due to attitude. Capel's mistake was not controlling his malcontents (this is not to say I could have done it better).

Johnson is not playing basketball right now it is unclear if he is still enrolled in school.

I don't know what KJ facebook page you are looking at but the word "class" is not present on either one. Based on what I gleem from these FB pages he is not in Texas but back in Richmond and working out on his own.

I see no way he is going to be eligible to go to any D1 school next year. See his FB comment about NCAA rules issues. Don't know what he is talking about but I'm sure they have some pretty clear requirements like being able to stay in school and get a certain amount of class work done. This should not be a mystery to anyone and it certainly has nothing to do with minorities. The NCAA screws everyone equally from what I can tell.

I keep going back to my original position with Karron. No matter how talented you are, it is a basic requirement to be able to demonstrate that you can do what is necessary to be a viable member of a team for a season. So far, and as long as I've known of him, he has not done that for a single year. Until he faces and gets a handle on those root cause issues I can't see him having success anywhere.

He is beginning to remind me of another troubled basketball talent from Richmond, Tyree Evans. He graduated from Kent State last year but he must be at least 25 years old by now and I'm not sure what he is going this year but it isn't with any NBA team.

I still hope for the best for Karron but I am convinced at this point that he is being poorly advised and that this is not going to have a positive outcome. Lastly, I've been checking the Midland news online and KJ has not participated in a game since late November so I seriously doubt that he will take the court for Midland again given that January is almost over. I would doubt that he is even academically eligible to participate at Midland at this point.

We will all know more as additional info trickles out. I severed my FB relationships with Karron, his mom, and his mentor so I don't have the level of info I had a short time ago. I tried to help KJ but there was no receptivity for listening to anything.

How's his farm doing?

LOL!!! the funniest part is the mid major coach, Kevin Brown at Santa Cruz asking Johnson to call him!!!!

Coaches are like sharks in the water.

I also noticed those pleas to call that coach. There is about as much chance of KJ calling him as there is for me to play in the NBA next week.

Like I said, we will see what happens with this situation as time goes by. The meter is running and there are a ton of young talented kids in the pipeline that will garner attention. There is a small window of opportunity that must be taken advantage of. If you miss it as a young player and screw up your education you have nothing to rely on going forward.

I feel sorry for these elite players that have advisors and mentors that get hold of them when they start standing out in AAU ball. Many are hoping to make money off the players so they may not be providing good advice for the players future. Also, many of them have backgrounds which do not qualify them to advise anyone. Unfortunately, these players will not listen to anyone outside their inner circle so if they are poorly advised they have to suffer the consequences after the mentor drops them for the next elite prospect.

I think it has become pretty evident from Karron's public Facebook page that he is in Richmond and is working out on his own. He never returned to college and is not taking classes. Unless I'm missing something, there is no way he would be academically eligible at OSU next year.

Since he was a manchild when I first saw him at age 15 it could be that he just doesn't fit in college and that he might be a better fit for an NBA team. However, I tried to point out to him and to his mentor (James Black) that everytime he got suspended or kicked off a team that he was sending a message to all NBA teams that he could not function as part of a team and accept discipline like everyone else. More importantly, these suspensions were costing him real money in his perceived value. No one wanted to hear it or to take it seriously.

I still hope for the best but I remain frustrated that his tendancies persist and that he is not demonstrating that he can maintain himself as part of a team. We will know more in the coming months when the NBA draft rolls around.

It's of my understanding that he is taking classes to get eligible. Time will tell how the Darrell Williams situation affects Karron, due to his history of conduct issues. OSU is very active on the recruiting front with Tony Kimbro Jr. and Sam Grooms. The biggest winners of the Darrell Williams incident may end up being Reger Dowell or Perry Shaw.
