KayKay next year

Since Kruger has been here, he hasn't won a single post-season game. Since Kruger has been here Sherri has won in the post-season. So what? Kruger this, Sherri that. Really flawed comparisons in my estimation.

I think both coaches are good for OU. Obsessing over whether Sherri twitters or who she blames for losses (I have heard her praise players over and over and give credit for players taking the team on their shoulders for a win) is getting repetitive.

I don't know of an OU coach who is perfect. Certainly not Stoops nor Kruger, nor Sherri. I do think if a player chooses OU other than for having been a lifelong Sooner fan it is most likely because of Sherri. This years class looks good to me and I for one am eagerly anticipating the up-coming season.

Just my opinions.

+1

To talk about Lon not having won a post season game yet is misplaced criticism. He hasn't been in Norman long and deserves additional time. But everyone should recognize he is making progress every year. If he doesn't win a post season game in the next 2-3 years then your point will be on target. But not now.

My point is, that saying that is a flawed comparison (I think I said that.) you can't willy-nilly compare the two. It's not "misplaced criticism" because it isn't criticism at all.

Coale won her first NCAA post season game at the end of her fourth season.

Unless I missed something, they weren't talking about wins or losses.

For some reason, every possible inapplicable comparison that ends up demonstrating Sherri's incompetence is permissible, whereas anything that suggests that she compares favorably is misplaced. It was an accurate reflection of truth, not misplaced.

This board is a woman's board for OU women's basketball.

First post season win was the year before. So what?

Does all this mean Kruger has three more years to make the National Championship game? No of course not. All these Kruger/Coale comparisons are false equivalencies.

You are the one that brought up the fact that Kruger has not won a post season game. Not me.

You are the one who started comparing the two coaches. I am the one who said these comparisons are false equivalencies. It is irrelevant whether we compare post-season records or who blames players. If you don't get that then there is nothing else I can do.

:chestram2:
garyeb2 is spot on about Coale not taking blame for the season thaey had. I have heard her blame players for losses. Kruger never does this. He does not blame players and always looks for something good to say about his players.

+1. Sherri needs to take part in her own underwhelming performance as a coach last year. The greatest coaches would have found a way to rally her team. She didn't.

I don't know if Kaylon was hesitant during the season because of her injury, or if she never really got into playing shape. Regardless, that is water under the bridge. She has the opportunity to put last year behind and become dominant on the glass. She has two new team mates that will push her for playing time, and if she doesn't put in the work in the off season, she could be pulling splinters from the bench. I think she will answer the challenge and become the player I saw in high school and help shore up the low post that we need.

That is a fair evaluation. My point on this issue is that Williams was the 2nd string post player with a legit built in excuse for some lackluster play.

Whatever she did or didn't do had little or nothing to do with a mediocre season. The issues were much bigger than that. My point of contention is with her coach that goes on TV and takes shots at her and a couple of yard bird posters that will say anything to deflect responsibility away from the person in charge.

The main reason I hope that Kaylon will be really good is because I would prefer not going into the season with a freshman center. We will most likely have a freshman PG and having 2 starting freshmen would not be ideal. Kaylon has shown some really good moves on offense. The other parts of her game need improving. Hopefully she will put in the work this summer to do just that.

I have yet to see anyone post proof that Sherri put down players. Got proof?

I don't recall specifics offhand, but since you are asking, I might need to go back and check some postgame press conferences. Don't hold your breath, I'm sure SS.com didn't quote her on stuff and I'm not gonna review 10-minute press conference tapes for every loss/bad performance game.

Some of the stuff that's been written in this thread makes me wonder if I've been following the same OU teams as my fellow posters. There's not a single varsity coach at OU that I'm aware of who doesn't support his/her players. That includes Sherri and Lon, both of whom are more apt to heap praise on their players than to publicly criticize them.

Sherri may have, in response to a direct question, said that Kaylon needed to improve certain aspects of her game. If so, she was just giving an honest response and was most likely trying to challenge a player who has the tools to be one of the top post players in the conference.

Assertions that Sherri blamed individual players or threw them under the bus to deflect blame for a disappointing season are totally ridiculous.

Thank you!

I don't remember the exact incident... if it was after a game talking to Billy Sims, in a postgame presser, a radio interview on Sports Animal or on one of those FS Soutwest shows or what, but there was something that I heard from Sherri this past season that seemed very uncharacteristic along these lines. I don't recall the exact wording, I don't think she named any player specifically, but I seem to recall that it had something to do with the team lacking leadership.

I don't think I'm going crazy and pulling this type of thing out of thin air, but I have absolutely no link or newspaper clipping or audio file, youtube, etc. to reference, so I guess it's possible that I'm just dreaming that we had one of the worst seasons in recent memory... or rather, Sherri said something she shouldn't have publicly :(
