Forward considering LSU, Oklahoma St., Ole Miss commits to UH

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - 6-9 forward Xavier Dupree, a sophomore at Paris Junior College, told FOX 26 Sports he has verbally committed to the University of Houston.

Dupree said he chose UH over "LSU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Nevada and Western Kentucky."

He said has canceled visits to LSU and Mississippi.

Dupree, who played at Alief Taylor, averaged 3.6 points and 3.2 rebounds as a freshman at Paris JC, but greatly increased his stock this past summer.

Dupree said the opportunity to play for Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson played a big role in his decision.

"It means a lot," Dupree said. "He's had a lot of success with JUCO players.

"He's got connections and that can help me get to the next level."

Dupree is thrilled he will be able to continue his college basketball career in his hometown.

"That means a lot, just playing in front of my peope," Dupree said.

Dupree will begin playing for UH during the 2015-16 season

Not a big surprise since he went to HS in Houston (Alief Taylor). That's the same school that football's Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (Obo) went. Martellus Bennett went there, too (A&M and now the Chicago Bears). There's a lot of athletic talent in the Alief school district.

i just saw coach Sampson at the Atlanta airport while i was waiting for my plane to Nevada. i spoke to him briefly and wished his team well and he did the same to me. i thought he was a great guy from my limited interaction last Thursday.

Thanks for the report! I was around Coach Sampson many times during his time in Norman. I agree wholeheartedly that Kelvin is a great guy.

Coach Sampson was always friendly any time I had interactions with him, which was 3-4 times. I respect what he did at OU building that program. I was disappointed when the phone thing occurred and how things went down when he left......I was really disappointed that the same "mistakes" happened under his watch the SECOND time when he was at Indiana......many people will blow it off as no big deal because many of those rules have been changed but it DOESN'T change the fact that they were in place when he and his staff were breaking those rules......really disappointed me.

I wish him luck at UH though.
