Amazing stat from this game....with less than a minute left, UK doesn't have a player tonight with more than 1 assist. You think they play well as a team?:D

Julius Randle vs Jordan Mickey....aahh....I'd rather have Spangler.

Watched a little of that game. They're really struggling to put it together.

Really like the Jordan Mickey kid for LSU. Played with Hornbeak at Grace Prep.

I just don't think Cal is a good coach. He is a great recruiter, but he needed what was it? 5 NBA first rounders to win a championship. It seems like his team have never over-achieved.

It's funny if Randle had come to OU he would be on a much better team, and would be drafted just as high. Why are recruits so enamored with Calipari?

Well, UK is a big program and Cal is a known cheater. So, I guess those are the main reasons.

If Randle were on this team, we would:

A) Be the best rebounding team in the nation.
B) Challenge KU for conference title.
C) Be a legit Elite Eight squad (or better).

Crazy what one player can do. I wish one of those outstanding 2016 recruits would realize they can win a championship with us.

He's been to an elite eight and two final fours in his 4 years at Kentucky, playing with almost completely turned over rosters every year. He's a really really good coach

In a more realistic scenario, all of those same things you said might be true with mbaye here this year.

Do think recruiting will continue to gain momentum going forward though. I don't think even our fans realized how good we would be this year. I certainly didn't. After the next few years well have the resume to sell to recruits that will make them believe they can come here and win a title.

He has had better talent than all but 3 or 7 teams. Is he a really good coach or a really good recruiter? Couldn't most AAU coaches have a strong college team with the talent he has playing agains the competition Kentucky plays against?

He was within a prayer of a 3 pointer in winning another at Memphis...he is a good coach.

He puts kids in the NBA.

Exactly. He has changed his offensive scheme 3 out of 4 years to tailor toward the personnel he has, once was mid-season on their run to an Elite Eight. People saying he is not a good coach aren't doing their research on what he does from a schematic standpoint. When you predominantly play freshman, this is what's going to happen. The Harrison Twins have not been as good as advertised, which has killed them.

It's funny that some people were saying UK might go undefeated this season.

They already have 5 losses now after last night.

This. Cal is as slimy/dirty as they come, but he is a tremendous Xs and Os guy. As mentioned above, he has had to reorganize his offense several times in the last three or four years to compensate for the talent that he has brought in (playing to strengths, covering weaknesses). He also has to manage kids (and egos) that don't care to be in college, that only care about stats, and are only there as a pit-stop on their way to the NBA.

The problem he has this year is that his recruits aren't making the commitment at the defensive end and according to him...."they can't be coached" and "just won't listen".....which I find hilarious because I can't stand the guy.:D

If Randle had come to OU he could have been the first off the bench to relieve Spangler:D

I had watched the Harrison twins a couple of times at big AAU events and wondered what all the fuss was about. They are really talented kids, don't get me wrong, but you could see lots of holes in their games. They were not at all interested in doing the little details that it takes to win at that level. They could get there, but it's gonna take a while!!!

So I was doing my visit-the-losers-board routine earlier today and Baylor noted that Kentucky now has a bad loss.

Sadly, OU now has a bad win :D

lol at people saying Cal isn't a good coach.

Is he a better than Drew?
Seriously.
Drew took a squad of much less talented players and beat them.

Baylor, which hasn't done squat in the Big 12, beat Cal and his All-Stars.
Both coaches are great recruiters. Cal has a 25,000 seat arena to sell so he'll get the better players. But, if last year is any sign, his bench coaching skills
are lacking.

How bad does he cheat? Check out this article:

CAPER IN CALIPARI LAND

Note: A couple of times a year we turn our column over to our detective friend, Nelson, whenever we find a sports crime story. Basketball season hasn’t quite started, yet an interesting tidbit comes from the Memphis Police Burglary unit involving players on the Memphis Tigers basketball team. Take it, Nelson.

Something’s fishy going on. I was nibbling on my calamari when I noticed an item involving John Calipari, Memphis Coach. Coincidence or providence -- You be the judge. Four of his ballers report a burglary from their campus pad, $66,720 of stuff. They’re in an exhibition game exhibiting themselves in this pyramid-looking gym while a perp is boosting their stuff, helping himself to eight mink coats, diamond earrings, custom-made shirts and other necessities any self-respecting college jock can’t do without.

What peaked my interest was an earlier story about a Janice Dowell, owner of Motes Furs in Memphis, who reported eighteen full-length coats stolen from her store last month. I’m thinking this could be related and what are four ball players doing with two fur coats each? I know it gets really cold in Memphis because Elvis wanted to grow hair and be a teddy bear but it seemed to me this story was developing into t-r-o-u-b-l-e for Mr. Calipari. I thought maybe it’s time for me to mosey to Memphis and be a hound dog. I mean, it’s now or never. It doesn’t look right for the big boss man. Scholarship Basketball players don’t work. They shouldn’t have the jack to be hit for a big boost.

I pull into Memphis and see where John C. is explaining how college students can afford
$4000 in custom made shirts by using their meal money, Pell grants and internships. I know John loves his guys but he’s heading to Heartbreak Hotel if he keeps this up. You don’t have to be a hard hearted woman to know that’s a bit of business. I bet when the Pell grant people read this they’re going to pull out – return to sender, address unknown – that’s the last thing they need. They’re going to be all shook up, doesn’t matter if the recipients are in the ghetto or the burbs, the Pell’s not there to buy fur coats.

Now Calipari’s doing a second news conference, asking the local media to love me tender and forget most of the stuff from the first conference. He’s being syrupy. He’s saying I want you, I need you, I love you. Haven’t they heard this line before? And worse yet, now he’s claiming there weren’t $40,000 worth of mink coats, as first reported, just fake furs worth maybe $3600. Oh, no. The reporters are falling for it. They’re wispy eyed, looking at him like he’s the you in the wonder of you. This is too much. Either the ballplayers lied, got a few items stolen and were trying an insurance scam or they really had valuables and are now lying so they don’t have to explain how they got these valuables. Either way, Calipari’s attempt at a smooth over will be a case of burning love. The Memphis Police aren’t buying it. Calipari is now giving them all a lesson in elementary arithmetic, stating that when his player, Clyde Wade, called in the theft and said eight coats were stolen, and by the way they were a girl friend’s coats and not his, and was asked their value, he said $5000. The policeman incorrectly multiplied that by eight, whereas he had meant $5000 for the total eight. Calipari goes to the blackboard and does his math thing.

This is when the police point out to John that eighteen mink coats were stolen from the Motes Fur store a few weeks earlier. This is what I came for, to see the Calipari hang dog face. It’s the droop that out droops Larry Brown. He protests something about the coats not being fur.
“They were suede, not minks. Blue suede coats, a few shoes. Blue suede and shoes, I tell ya.”
