ISU outrebounded us 43 - 32. Spangler has not been himself lately. Under NO circumstance should a point guard ( Monte Morris 7 ) outrebound Ryan Spangler ( 6 ) . Earlier in the year when Lattin was still finding his groove, Spangler was tearing it up. Now as Lattin has hit full stride, Spangler has struggled. We NEED both of our starting posts to play to their absolute potential. With our trio of guards who are arguably the best in the country, we have a real shot to chase a Natty, but we need our post men to play big. Not only did Spangler and Lattin not score last night, they allowed Iowa State lots of extra points by allowing offensive rebounds. We don't need tons of scoring from the post, we need them to play big and own the glass. I believe they will get back to that starting saturday. BOOMER SOONER :OUbball-logo:

spangler had 10 and 14 on sat vs WVU ..

That's no different than the fact that Matt Thomas out-rebounded Lattin. It has a lot more to do with them getting our guys out of position than anything else.

Why do people keep brining up a pointless stat from WV??

Hell if cousins plays like he has the last 6 games we lose by 20.

Each game is itself . Spangler played absolutely horrible and he and Lattin are the reasons we lost .... Plain and simple . No way around it . Even if they play average games we win by double digits .

Saying that I expect Ryan to bounce back and continue to murder the boards like he has his whole career.
This loss is on our bigs .... And no one knows that more then them .

This will fuel their play and I expect them to continue the rest of this season with solid play . The one silver lining is we have found some depth with Buford who is getting better every minute he plays .

I think McKay was the difference in the ball game. He seemed to out leap our guys to either secure the rebound or keep us from rebounding the ball on every possession. Spangler can't jump with McKay, but is big enough to clear him out of the lane when the shot goes up.

OU seemed to play best when he was on the bench. I can't find a +/- box score (and I'm too lazy to rewatch the game). But my guess is that OU was + 7 or 8 when he was on the bench.

14 rebounds vs. the #1 offensive rebounding team in the country pointless? Congrats on just starting to watch college basketball. You'll enjoy it even more when you learn some of the finer points of the game.

Manyang deserved more minutes imo. It may have ended with the same result but isu was having a lot of trouble scoring with AK in the game. Spangler just didn't have it last night.

I agree on Spangler. He was having trouble on finishing shots... missed several contested layups and there was not offensive rebounding.
At least one big needs to go to the O board.

Those boards had NOTHING to do with last nights game . That's the point . In this conference on the road you better come to play every night or you will go home with a loss.

No one said rebounds were uesless , but EVERY stat from another game in useless to the next game . Who VA's what he did in another game .
You would enjoy this message board even more when you learn to read a topic first before you shoot your mouth off .

I see your point and apologize. I feel like people are piling on Spangler and/or assuming he hasn't done anything lately. I fully admit his performance last night was a major reason behind OU's loss, but OU would not have beaten WVU without him. Sorry again for the crappy comment.

Nice Perry.

It seems to be a popular opinion that something is wrong with Spangler and perhaps his knee is hurt (which happened in the first ISU game). Since the first ISU game and excluding last night, Spangler has averaged 11.25 points per game and 11.75 rebounds per game. He had 14 points and 18 rebounds against KU, 14 and 7 against KSU, 7 and 8 against OSU and 10-14 against WVU.

I completely agree that Ryan did not have one of his better games and may have had one of worst games at OU last night but I do not think he is injured. Sometimes you just don't have your energy. Sometimes you just get beat.

My hope is that the game is Ames is nothing more than anomaly and Ryan Spangler will go right back to being the outstanding player he is.

The one thing I will say I have noticed about Spangler is his 3 shot does not appear (I didn't check stats) appear to be falling and he looks a bit hesitant to take it at times. I would like to see him shoot initially without the little thought we often see and then the shot. I have no stats to back it up, but it seems to me he shoots at a higher percentage when he takes the shot without that hesitation.

As far as blaming individuals for a loss, I don't want to participate in that. It is team sport. The guys win and lose as a team. Pointing fingers does nothing to help the team win the next game.

I'm leaning towards an illness for Spangler last night. He just didn't seem himself for whatever reason. Even though Iowa State is an absolutely terrible match-up for him. I thought they did a nice job of keeping him away from the basket on the defensive end and attacking the human pogo stick to clear the backside for offensive rebounding.

No problem . Spangler is my favorite player and to me the mvp on this team . I'm not saying the best player but maybe our most important player . What he brings to this team on so many levels can't be expressed with stats alone .
I was about 20 feet from the court against WV and he had no business playing with those athletes that Huggy brought in .

He had 12 boards with about 15 minutes left in the second half , I thought he was going to set a personal record .he had maybe 10 boards that no one else in the conference ( maybe country ) could have snagged . 50/50 boards giving up 4 to 5 inches on some players , and one tip of the finger was the difference .
A great great performance , by a guy that that has no business getting that many rbs .

Saying all that he had his worst game of the season last night . Injury , sickness , or maybe just a bad game .... Doesn't really matter .

One thing that is a fact.... You won't see a game like that out of him the rest of the season .

I'm telling you he isn't by far our best player , but he is the mvp.

27 by Buddy, career high by cousins , career high by Buford , Iowa state had zero points from bench ...... And we still lose.

That's how important Ryan is to this program

Agree 100%. When Manyang came into the game, ISU almost completely stopped driving the lane once he blocked/affected several shots. At that point, ISU began to settle for more jumpers and play isolation on the perimeter. He totally changed the flow of their offense. I wish he would've played the whole 2nd half because he was incredibly effective.

The problem with Manyang is he just can't rebound . It seems he is late /loses every 50/50 board that we have a chance at .

I agree his size can alter some shots but it's not because of position in the paint . It just seems he's alway in the wrong spot .
Niang was doubled more when nanyang came in vs Spangler / Lattin . Slowing Iowa state down seemed to have more to do with that then our 7 footer just playing better defense .

It sounded like, from the get-go, the student section was trying to get in Spangler's head. Perhaps it worked.

Not saying he's a great rebounder, but did you see Spangler and Lattin's rebounding stats from last night? At some point, it's worth a look

Thru the OOC, I would have completely agreed.

Simply based on +/- numbers. His were crazy! He'd go to the bench and the lead would go from 15 to 5 real fast.
