Khavon Moore down to OU and Texas Tech

yeah, thinkin he see's TY leaving and what we have as a pg and decided TT was a better option....

they definitely trended up...we trended down. HS kids are into that.

Ugh...not what I wanted to read. Hopefully, someone with some inside info (thankfully, there are a few on this Board) can find out WHY we went from a lock to losing this guy.

We badly need some big-time players in this program with the likely loss of Young. I don't think there will be a shortage of scholarships available, either. We lose a player to transfer pretty much every year (regardless who the head coach is), and don't see why this year will be any different.

Agreed. Turning down a 5 star would be pretty stupid at this point... Anyway onwards and hopefully upwards!

I hope you’re right about the grad transfer. No way I want to see us do anything that will give De’Vonte second thoughts. He’s the real deal!

Agreed but we have to add someone to take advantage of the abilities of James, McGusty, and the others next year and I don't think Shepherd is the guy. A grad transfer makes the most sense and it would be appealing to step in and work with a talented bunch of returnees and he could start & play 30+ minutes from day 1.

I think you guys are seriously underestimating Shepherd. I think this team will come out with a chip on its' shoulder and do much better than expected post-TY.

What 5 Star are you talking about?

Moore isn’t that guy.

Negative. We desperately need a grad transfer PG or were going 15 wins tops kinda season next year

I'm not underestimating him. I think he'll bounce back after his sophomore slump to be a pretty good backup PG next year...but we'll still need a starter.

I think I agree with both of these statements.

I don't think Shepard is a superstar but I think he has gotten a raw deal this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he transferred b/c of how this year played out. But I hope he stays and proves people wrong next year. He looked promising as a freshman.

But with this roster, I would probably take 15 wins next year.

He might have gotten a "raw deal" but it is what it is. No job is safe.

I like the kid, think he does things the right way, team player, etc...from what I see on TV.

BUT he threw the ball away 2 consecutive trips against ksu...not semi bad TO's but HORRIBLE.

Hope he can bounce back, we'll need him. He isn't the only ? next season. IMHO

I think this is a good way to view it.

He can be a quality backup. Expecting him to be a starter on a team that finishes in the top few in the Big 12 and plays in the 2nd weekend (and hopefully, 3rd) weekend of the NCAA tournament is a big ask.

I don't think anyone of us can accurately judge how shepard is going to do next year after averaging 6 minutes a game in Big 12 play. (This excludes the Iowa State game where he got 28 minutes because that was the most he has played this season and is too big of an outlier). Playing 2-3 minutes at a time is so hard because you don't have enough time to get in rhythm. When I think about Shepard you have to think about his Freshman year, he had some great games. Memphis and Auburn are two that stand out with Memphis being his best game. 18 points, 2 Assists and 0 turnovers while playing 38 minutes. That is great potential.

I do think it would be smart to grab a transfer because we don't know, but I see alot of cousins in Shepard. A long, athletic point guard. Lets give the man a chance before we cast our disapproval.

Random comment: I’ve never understood why the coaches accepted Kur Kuath’s commitment when they had the inside track for Khavon Moore. We only had one scholarship available at the time. Obviously, they know more than me.....

I've had this question myself. My guess at the time was that Kuath is more like Lattin who the team is losing this year than Moore is and that the coaching staff feels he offers more defensive presence with this ability to block shots. It may be because they sensed Moore was wavering and they felt they had to get someone.

Lol ya if only we could get a guy just like lattin... :ez-roll:

So true. Everybody and their dog was picking Moore to OU. Only thing I can think of is Moore is more like a point forward who excels in the open court while Kuath is more of a rim protector. You would think the way basketball is going you'd be ecstatic with a 6-9 small forward who could do alot more.

It feels like something weird happened. VBDAD came on here saying he was all ours even the day he was supposed to announce. I find it hard to believe OU dropped him because of an injury. They stayed with CJ after his broken leg. Oh well I guess we'll never know.

It'll be interesting to follow OU's big man recruiting the next couple years.

I think we'll do better than expected post-Trae, but more because of McGusty. Shepherd ceiling is "adequate," which is what I expect of him next year.

Shep is seasoned. Ive seen him make some good passes and have some decent looks this year even in more limited minutes. He leads the break well and he's long. I put a lot more stock in experience and longevity at the point than just necessarily pure skill.

I do wish we'd sacrificed some trae time to keep him on the floor more this season but I have seen trae's game rub off a bit on him too. He keeps his head up more now and looks for the longer pass.
