I think the PF position is Kornet's to lose. Pretty good athlete. Generally takes care of the ball. Good shooter. Pretty good defender. Shows good movement without the ball. Seems to have a high basketball IQ.

She is doing everything well except what we got her to do. I thought she was a great shooter/scorer. She moves. She hustles. She dives. She fights and claws. She passes brilliantly. She cuts. She does it all.

Right now, I can't remember her hitting anything other than a layup. She needs to start shooting better to hold off Kaylon.

If memory serves, Kornet hit at least one, maybe two treys last night. I actually thought she shot the ball pretty well, though I haven't looked at the box score.

On second thought, maybe I'm thinking about the first exhibition game. :o

I don't think Kornet has found her shooting stroke yet but she shot well in high school and made some big shots last year so I'm not worried about her shooting. She shot as well BTA as Aaryn did last night which, admittedly, wasn't good. I believe in 4 or 5 games we will see players like Kornet, Derica, Carter, etc all shooting better than they are right now.

From what little we've seen, I think there is a very good chance that Morgan will be the most improved player this year. I understand she is shooting lights out in practice and her maturity seems to be at another level although we will know more against tough competition. That is why I indicated earlier that Morgan may be Aaryn's primary backup. If Morgan moves to the 2 when Aaryn goes out, that brings Edwards to the point and frees Morgan up to take more shots which keeps our scoring firepower in the lineup.

Kornet looks more solid this year. She will hit her share of treys. I thought she should have had more minutes last year but Sherri keeps her underclassmen on a pretty tight leash.

Campbell appears to be hitting her outside shots better this year as well. Sherri does a good job of bringing players along as far as shooting outside is concerned. Ny Stevenson couldn't shoot very well as a frosh, ditto Amanda Thompson but both hit a lot of outside shots their senior year.

I think Wyatt will be a good shooter but she looks a little uncertain as to whether she should shoot or not. The short leash probably plays a role in their being relaxed on a shot as well. I do think Wyatt has good court awareness on both offense and defense as do Carter and Edwards.

I'm not so sure that Derica is on a short leash. In practice, Sherri keeps telling Derica to take her shot. Says that's the reason she's here. She can shoot. I think she took about nine shots in the first game. She has a nice stroke when she relaxes. She seems a bit out of synch right now on her stroke during games. When she just shoots, she is lights out. If anything, I think Sherri is likely to use her as a zone buster or if they are giving us the outside shot. She's also about a 90% free throw shooter---if I remember right.

I think Sherri generally keeps all reserves on a shorter leash than she does the starters.

N.K. just looks so much more confident on the floor, and I am not worried about her shot. She will get into rhythm and give us the shooting depth we need. Her body makes her a natural at the 4 spot, and will give teams fits on the outside if they guard her with a slower player. She's not just a behind the arc shooter, with her and Sharane on the wings, it gives us now 4 kids who can drive to the hoop and get fouls, or kick out to team mates. Makes for an exciting offense and makes us very difficult to defend.

If Kornet can improve her ability to take a player off the dribble then pull up and hit the 15ft jump shot, it will really help her game. The mid-range jump shot is not stressed as much today as it should be, IMO.

Ain't that the truth. Nicole is quite capable, she just seems to either take it to the rack or launch behind the arc. Too many kids these days are wanting to settle for the long jumper and not create and shoot off the dribble. I would love for her to add that to her arsenal and be a more complete scorer as opposed to a shooter.
