Kruger addresses Smart situation with team

Krugs on top of things as usual. As a stud jock I'm sure he feels for Smart.

All of us who love college hoops need to use this incident to improve the game. If you're sitting around somebody at a game who is going out of their way to harass a player from the opposing team have the courage to call out said person and tell them to stfu. Only an absolute loser would have an insult on the tip of their tongue ready to hurl at a player the moment they were within earshot.

Good suggestion. Be classy though. Actually saying "stfu" will be unlikely to achieve the desired results. We should try to be civil to the players on the court, and the fans in the stands.

Good point traveler! The appropriate statement to said fan would be "come on man, show some class. We're not Texas Tech fans!"

We know that it is part of the game, but that does not mean that we have to like it, or participate in it.

Would it be a bad thing if fans of The University of Oklahoma gained the reputation of being classy people. It is possible to be rabid and fanatic without being crud and crappy.

When I attend games and sit near fans of opposing teams, I am most impressed by those that cheer loudly for their team. I am least impressed by fans that hurl verbal insults at anybody. In fact, there have been many occasions where I have been embarrassed by OU fans that act like immature babies.

Actually it's not part of the game. What it's usually about is an underachiever criticizing a much more successful person to feel better about themselves.

lmao ok freud... we should all hold hands after the game too and sing together so we can all enjoy each other's success :woot

everyone is SOOO soft these days

So what is acceptable heckling to boca?

"Hey, your bball skills are lacking!"

We are already considered by many opposing teams to have great friendly fans...atleast in football. i doubt it is different for bball

"your ability to lose one's feet is unmatched in quality!!!"-- Boca

Personally it's a part of the game that stinks. Parents and other adults yelling insults and cussing at opposing players, that are kids or young adults, in front of younger kids. Nothing right about that. Cheer like a champion. I'm a long time career school coach. I tell me player's parents every year to cheer for our team. Don't yell negative stuff at the opposing players. I even tell them to stay off the refs, that's my job. There are some parents and fans that are embarassing to the the team, their own kids at times, and the institution.

Part of the game, but that doesn't mean I like it.

Common sense can often be applied to answer questions like these.

Not really. People have different opinions.

I really don't have a problem with "piece of crap." Do I particularly think a 60 year old man should be saying it? Not really. Do I have a problem with one of our students saying it to an opposing player in a similar situation as Smart had? Not really.

To me, as long as you don't go into the realm of profane, disgusting, or stuff that shouldn't be talked about (religion, deformity, dead parents), I'm okay with most anything in moderation.

Just everybody has a different opinion of where that line is.

Over the years, I have been to high school and little league games where the players (children, teens) are obviously embarrassed by their own parents in the stands.

When I am at games most of my energy is focused on the team I'm pulling for, maybe the occasional boo for players most deserving on the opposing team. (which probably means they are the best player on that team)

I think OU fans, for the most part, do a pretty good job. From what I've seen, most of the ire is directed at the officials and [insert offensive coordinator here] and [insert current starting QB here] more so than the opposing players.

It's not surprising to me this happened in Lubbock, having attended a couple football games there.

I think we're treading on taking the passion and fun out of college sports, here. Let's face it, the football and basketball games have already turned into billboards. You take the chance, by white-washing trash talking & heckling, of losing some of the fire and passion that make it great.

Let's face it, Duke fans aren't exactly hurling pleasantries in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Yet, the Duke students gave a whole generation of us inspiration for good cheers, jeers, heckles, etc.
